He gets carded a lot, potentially leading to suspensions, which allows better players to take his place in the lineup. Sort of a 'self-correcting mechanism', if you will...
Well, Meram isn't doing so hot. One goal in 16 games - still better than Pedro, but we're not much worse off.
What the hell is Kekuta Manneh up to now. Hes barely been able to see the field for Pachuca. He wouldn't be my first choice to bring back here....but we tried to re-sign him and I wonder if we would be open minded to bringing him back still. We at least know he can score some goals unlike our other wingers.
Manneh was our most productive winger not named Justin Meram last season by a LARGE margin. He would easily be our most productive winger this season. He's 2x the player that Santos is at this point in his career.
He just went to mighty St Gallen in Switzerland. Edit: didnt see placid's post. To be fair, i think its a good move for Manneh. Swiss league and MLS are probably around the same standard, maybe MLS is barely better based off of many of the Swiss flops we've had here. Of course, thats not counting teams like Basel and Young Boys.
Most of the good Swiss players went to Germany (there are four players from my club alone, plus a former Gladbach player) and from there in some cases to England (Xhaka and Shaquri. for two).
But if Meram was here in this system he would be scoring . Maybe we can trade Santos for him or just make some kind of dumb offer that they will refuse.
Maybe--maybe not. All players reach their sell-by date at some point. For Justin's sake, I hope he hasn't. But.... To the second point--he doesn't want to be here--likely because of the current situation. He asked for a trade. Highly unlikely that he'd come back.
No I’m sure he won’t come back but if AP was gone Inthink he would come back to Columbus. Meram is MLS proven Santos is just soft , his gm is average in most areas and his scoring and passing skills are below average . We all wanted him to step up but adtercthos season he should be cut or have his salary cut. He has drastically underperformed to this point. We as a small market can’t afford to over play bad players. Mensah has improved so there is hope that Santos light comes on. Mensah is still overpaid but he definitely is MLS starter quality , he has stopped making silly errors. Santos has to start scoring goals period
Here's some writing by MLS shill Matt Doyle on just how terrible Pedro Santos has been. (Hint: VERY TERRIBLE) Santos, the Portuguese Designated Player winger, has now played 3046 minutes in MLS between the regular season and last year's playoffs. He has taken 92 shots, many of which have come from good spots. His expected goals on those shots sits at 6.10 according to Opta. He has scored one career goal. Santos takes over 2.7 shots per 90 minutes (including playoffs), which means he's a high-volume shooter. Steve Fenn did some wonderful research last month in which he catalogued all the high-volume shooters in MLS history, with a minimum of 3,000 minutes played. The worst finisher of that bunch was Portland winger Dairon Asprilla, at .08 goals per 90 minutes. Santos is at less than half of that number – .03 goals per 90, to be precise, worsting the worst finisher in MLS history by a mile. Just by pure luck he should have two or three more goals. I understand why he's gotten so much run, as he's a smart player in build-up play, has good feet and does a good amount of unselfish running. He can be effective, and has been, at helping to dictate the game. His finishing, though, has gone past tragedy and into comedy.
If you go to Matt Doyle's twitter you see where he started laying this out before the article. A Crew fan and obvious Berhalther cultist tried to rush into Pedro's (and obviously Berhalter's defense) speaking nonsense about "Gregg's system." Doyle shot it down pretty quickly and succinctly... This is not true. Pedro Santos takes roughly the same # of shots per 90 as the likes of Piatti, Rossi, Salloi, Russell, Penilla, Royer, etc, and has played ~2000 minutes. He has 1g on 65 shots.https://t.co/Tm6BtLTCng— Matthew Doyle (@MattDoyle76) September 23, 2018 Just another example of the great lengths the cultists will go to defend something that so obviously wrong....
