Paul says "it's not Jay's fault" that his players are getting sent off -- "he told them not to." 1) They don't listen to him 2) How did he tell them, how did he reinforce it? 3) They don't listen to him. Jay, why are only 3 players busting their butts in this game? Jay, why is your team time-wasting when down one and then two goals?
I'm assuming that was for the second goal. Angoua stopped and Rubio kept going. And that was pretty much game over.
Today's math lesson: Bad Coaching (#HeapsOut) + Bad Players (#FireBurns) = Bad Team (#FireBilello) Nemet's elbow was so deliberate that I wondered if he had a bet on how long it would take to get red carded. Now we know why he was unemployed before Burns found him.
Right or wrong, the sense I get as that the franchise lacks purpose. They don't know what they want to be. And if you don't know what you want to be, then it's impossible to know how to get there.
Seems to be the New strategy - go down to 10 men early in the game then blame everyone else for losing.
Heaps goes crazy in 73' when he thinks there is a handball, and per Mariner, leaves his technical area and runs 15 yards down the sideline. Only for the center ref, 4th official to tell him he is wrong. The score was 3-1 at this time. Sounds like a youth coach that just doesn't get it. Sounds like a professional coach in over his head and grasping at straws like a madman.
Heaps sounds like Clinton blaming everyone on the defeat and taking no responsibility at all. Mirror time Jay. The last few games the team has play uninspired soccer. A team that should be fighting for their playoff lives looked uninterested.
They're going to blow the core up this off-season. Pretty confident one or more of Kamara, Lee, Koffie, Watson etc will be gone. Who knows maybe even Tierney or Caldwell won't be here. Just seems like the same feel as the end of 2011 with No cop. You could see it in his face like you see it with Heaps now. This is a much better team talentwise but the coaching change and squad turnover feels inevitable.
IMO there is no way to predict anything until we know (1) Will the clean and replace Heaps et al (2) Who will be the replacements This roster is better than its played under the current leadership We don't need a blow up as much as new leadership and fleshing out with depth and one or more game changing quality players
I agree. This roster is head and shoulders above the quality of the roster we finished the Nicol era with.
Doc all due respect but I think you missed what I was saying. In 2011 they had Feilhaber and a few others but the overall talent level was much lower. This team is more talented and just as bad. Just like they didn't renew No cop then they won't renew Heaps now. That's the comparison. As far as next steps, this one is straight forward. The Krafts are sportsmen as you d day. They are businessmen who want to win. After missing the playoffs 2 straight years with some horrific performances this season, why would they not clean house? I can't see a scenario they re up Heaps. It won't happen he's gone. Maybe Burns with him. To keep it simple: 1 - yes 2 - Brian Wright, Herivaux and someone they pick up in a trade, off waivers or through the draft will step up.
Lee's contract is up in Dec. I would imagine he will play this out and see who the team hires as coach and if they fire Burns, entertain offers then decide
Koffie's on loan so that's a safe bet. But I wouldn't consider Kamara or Watson a core member at all. Kamara is too old to build around and Watson is a utility backup player. IMO, our core is Rowe, Fagundez, Delamea, Caldwell, Nguyen, Agudelo, Kouassi, Farrell, Cropper, Tierney. Dielna and Nemeth haven't been here long enough to be considered core members, but are clearly valuable. People have been saying Nguyen's contract is up - no idea if that's true. If it is, I wouldn't be surprised to see him move on, maybe even to LAFC. Tierney has past the period where he was a solid starter, and his value to the team may be more as a utility player and locker-room guy, but I think he still is valuable (he's also cheap, at $125k). Our core guys are fairly cheap (other than Kouassi) and I think the addition of a top quality left back, a fast left-footed winger attacker, and a dominating #6 to replace Koffie puts this team at the level of NYCFC/Chicago (as far as the starting XI).
