Few things— The first goal by the Rapids was good soccer. Really, I can’t remember a goal as pretty all last year. (We scored last year, right?) Shinyasiki’s goal was right after he totally watched the previous pass to him near the goal line. He needed to dive and center the ball, but stopped when he saw a defender. But he made up for it. He’ll need to play physical in this league. Hard to make any conclusions in that crazy game, but all of the new players seemed to be talented. Wynn was better than last year. Wilson was still Wilson. I thought Serna played his butt off. Tim gave up three goals and played great. He deserved the point.
✅ First game in @MLS✅ First goalNow let's help @AShinyashiki9 win his first Goal of the Week.🗳 https://t.co/PZU8WFmp6e#Rapids96 | #SnowClasico3 pic.twitter.com/rgyM4x71B2— Colorado Rapids (@ColoradoRapids) March 4, 2019
🥶@ColoradoRapids and @TimbersFC played the coldest match in @MLS history this weekend: Six goals, one red card and... MINUS 7️⃣ degrees 🥶❄️ pic.twitter.com/hSwUIrxua6— 433 (@433) March 4, 2019
Lotsa good input @fortcollins! Picked out a couple to respond to. On the "bowling ball" - for some reason that didn't occur to me while watching, but when I read your comment I felt the pain in my foot from playing on bitter cold days when the ball feels like a lump. And the players did it for ~100 minutes (counting stoppage). OGs are brutal on GKs and make me realize how much making a save depends on anticipating a shot. You never anticipate your man shooting on you so you're not ready when it happens.
I couldn't recollect. But then again, I vaguely remembered the last time they scored 3 goals in a match.
Kind of a similar thought here. In terms of season openers, IIRC this is only the third time the Rapids have scored three goals in a season opener. I think 2008 and 2011 were the other times (I know Portland was on the receiving end in 2011).
Looks like Benny Feilhaber and Tim Howard got named to the MLS team of the week after their performance in the game

That's true! I sure remember the look Howard gave Jared Watts after his epic OG. I'm glad there wasn't audio covering their conversation. I don't think it was terribly family-friendly.
Goal of the week from last weekend's Snow Classico: https://www.burgundywave.com/2019/3...l-of-the-week-for-his-first-professional-goal The goal was at a great time and well placed, but it was more of a "right place, right time" thing. Which I will take every time! Perhaps he should get "slide of the week" as well for that snow slide in short sleeve shirt! rod.
Dear Richard, Mr. Price is in no way a legend, thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. Soccer
Guys, Richard was saying he was a legend in the interview for sticking to the interview and not being distracted by the antics. Relax.
Forgot to mention this earlier - the PTFC fans brought their A game to Dick's last Saturday night. They were loud, proud and coordinated.
Really? Because from my POV in 108 I felt like they were a "you only sing when you're winning" group, unusually so for them. I blamed the weather.
I had the same perspective. Rarely heard them unless they had just scored. And usually the sound carries across to us. We did hang with a bunch of Portland fans Saturday night. A good crew for sure. I am biased, though, since Portland is my "second team" when the Rapids aren't playing. They hate Seattle as much as I do! Can't blame if it was subdued at the game due to the weather. Showing up at all showed massive support.
I did see the parabolic microphones being used I suspect they had one on the Portland section since many oregonians were likely watching. I really didn't hear much from them. Did get a fair amount of talk back from the Portland players after all our 108 mockery
https://www.fifa.com/news/the-week-in-numbers-x3633 has the first bullet at the top say "soccer on snow." The paragraph about you is: "-8 degrees Celsius – or 18 degrees Fahrenheit – gave Colorado Rapids-Portland Timbers the lowest temperature ever during an MLS match. It narrowly out-froze the previous record set in Minnesota United-Atlanta United in Minneapolis. Colorado, which encompasses the Rocky Mountains, has now staged six of the 13 snow-covered games in the MLS."
PRO AR call of the week went to the offside part of the Sjoberg red, stating that handling does not reset offside so great job in noting the goal could not stand: https://www.proassistantreferees.com/mls-week-in-review/week-1-march-3-4
