The World Cup qualifying campaign is over but George Burley's reign as Scotland national team coach continues. No competitive matches now for 12mths so he has plenty of time to piece together a team that will get us to the next Euro finals. It's been so long since we've been to a major international event. Too long, some would say. But for such a small country we had a terrific qualifying record in the 70's, 80's and 90's. We were spoiled to an extent. Hopefully keeping Burley in charge will offer some continuity and allow the team to progress in the right direction. I'm sure certain players would have been asked their opinion of the situation so he must have the backing of the playing squad which can only be a good thing.
Except it still leaves us without our best striker and that makes all the difference for a small nation such as ours. Goals win you games and finishing is where Boyd excels and we have struggled.
