To an extent. However, it could be argued that it’s the height of MLS arrogance, infamy and calumny that while our team was sold down the river ostensibly because we didn’t have a stadium deal, DC were allowed to fester in the decrepit surroundings of JFK for years while their ownership fiddled about. I guess I’m happy for DC, but I will always hate Garber and Anschutz with the heat of a thousand white-hot suns...

Yes, and didn't Johnny Moore once tell us that DC United was by far a bigger financial drain on the league than the Quakes were? I guess you needed 4 stars on your crest to avoid relocation, 2 was obviously not enough.

But yes, I am happy for the team and their fans. :)

I think media market size is why DC stuck around more than their early success in the league. Why do you think MLB ended up back there? It's too valuable to give up, regardless of whether or not the team is successful.

Isn't the Bay Area a larger media market?

I suspect East Coast bias better explains the differential treatment of DC and the Bay Area.

I'm confused. Are you upset that esports aren't just called sports or is it the idea of esports that offends you? Either way, it doesn't affect you, so what do you care?

Like I said, esports is an oxymoron. Sports is a physical activity. e is in the ether

    sport (spôrt, spōrt)

    • n.
Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.
    • n.
A particular form of this activity.
    • n.
An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively.

I want to post the original tweet with my retweeted commentor reply, and it’s easier to just post my tweet rather than rewrite my comment.

I do the same thing in my soccer movie thread. Seems redundant to retype stuff.

I agree. eSports is stupid. Call it what it is , video games. Those people need to stop pretending that they are some type of athlete.

First, language changes over time. Meanings aren't stuck in time forever, and since esports are competitions most like traditional athletic sports, it's a reasonable name.

Second, the word sport comes from a word meaning leisure. It was not tied to athletic endeavors.

Your argument is not really an argument, just simple gatekeeping over something that literally has no affect on you except that you choose to let it bother you. How about you let the people participate in video game competitions call it what they want since, you know, they're the ones doing it?

Yes only their thumbs are athletic.

I don’t have any problem with people playing video games. But call them games of skill or chance, not a sport.
