And I jinxed TOR. Second half adjustments by NYCFC and now they are completely dominating. Complete flip of scripts. Doesn’t seem like same game. NYCFC halftime drugging of opponent plan working to perfection.
NYCFC player Mitrita loses his mind and blows their season with dumbest tackle in soccer history. TOR pk in min 90 for 2-1 win. ATL takes a big breath of relief.
Is that a combination of Matarrita and Mitriță? Matarrita sank the ship. He's the most overrated player on NYC's books.
That's pretty confusing to have both Mitrita and Matarrita on your team - you guys need to cut one. But yeah, that guy.
I cannot watch LAFC vs Sounders....Ill hope the earth opens up and sucks everyone in or watch the finals
Happy that if we can't win the Cup, Chivas 2 can't, either. Flounders with three Cup appearances in four years. Who would have thought?
Three finals appearances in four years? Those are (almost) Arena numbers. I can’t say anything about tactics or strategy or signings, but he did seem to learn from Bruce what Sigi never did, the regular season doesn’t matter all that much. You put together a run at the end and try to ride it to the final.
Watching this game I was wishing he was our coach. Offense was mainly individual brilliance but defense was tactical brilliance. The never got caught on a counter and LAFC/Vela were facing a wall of green the whole game. SEA is greater than the sum of the parts, quite unlike the team I love.
It's kind of counterintuitive too because Sigi, as great as he was would focus on defending during the playoffs. That's why you guys would get us because our teams have typically been built to attack. Schmetzer takes a different approach, he emphasizes attacking, the defending during the regular season has been poor at times as a result but tonight they pulled off an almost perfect game precisely because they didn't stop attacking when they had the league. Sigi would have had the team try to defend a one goal lead for the rest of the game. Our front office has had a saying for this playoff run towards MLS Cup: "Built For This". You never hear the national pundits who got tonight's result way wrong in their predictions talk about this or why we feel our team was built for this. They just never rate our players properly. They aren't flashy names. We don't need that in Cascadia. What we do up here is get to MLS Cup finals. A team from up here has been in every MLS Cup final for the last 5 years and I expect that to continue. It's a team sport and until this league has no salary cap, building a strong team back to front will always be better than a couple flashy names.
LAFC's perfect season = ruined. pic.twitter.com/8ctzsouT93— FOX Soccer (@FOXSoccer) October 30, 2019 Damn Fox Soccer going hard.
I watched that game and the whole time I am laughing my butt off while screaming at the TV, "Team of Destiny HUH!?!" "Greatest Team in the History of MLS HUH!?!" "Best to Ever Lace'Em Up HUH!?!" I am so glad they crashed out. At least now I don't have to keep hearing about how great this LAFC team was this year. 2012 Galaxy would have wiped it's A$$ with this LAFC team. We were stacked from the front to the dang back with talent and discipline. They barely got past this 2019 Galaxy with Ibra. Our Big 3 era teams that were winning the double would have played them off the pitch.
2012 LA Galaxy is the best team in MLS history. Won the only balanced-schedule Supporter's Shields in back-to-back years (2011 and 2012) and capped it off with the MLS Cup. Don't argue it, it's fact.
The only argument I have is I think it was the 2010 and 2011. Other than that you are right it's inarguable and insurmountable. Without resorting to an MLS1/2 promotion/relegation scheme or contraction, there will never be a balanced schedule again so even if an MLS team goes a whole season undefeated there will always be an asterisk.
Yeah. 2012 started off horribly. It was the year Gonzo had that ACL injury and as soon as he returned, we took off like a rocket.
It is true that SEA's defense has been pretty suspect at times throughout the season. But for this particular game at least they stayed compact and goal side and never got caught out of position. High profile games build narratives so Schmetzer will probably get to much credit for this one win, but he's not gotten enough credit for SEA's consistency in recent seasons. So it all evens out I guess.
Don't go asking me to get my numbers correct!! (Yes, it was 2010-2011. 2011 LA Galaxy are the best team ever. Period.)
Just looked it up - the reason I had 2012 in my mind was because we won MLS Cup that year as well. So if you think about - no team has been that dominant in a 3-year period - winning 2 Shields and 2 Cups in 3 years. With the middle year being the zenith of that roster....
