For Castro, the season wasn't over yet, though. He played 90 minutes in Eintracht II's last game of the season in Lübeck, unfortunately a 0-3 loss. However, the game didn't have much meaning anymore anyway.
As of now, it seems Castro's contract was or is supposed to be extended. The club is, as usual, a bit cryptic here, when it comes to reserve or youth players signings or contract extensions more often than not are not really reported. But Castro is not listed among the players that have left the club in a news article today, although I couldn't see him in any of the photos from the first training of either the first or second team.
And now there'st he confirmation. Castro played 90 minutes in Eintracht II's first friendly against RL West side SC Verl, a 2-4 loss.
Castro was injured and missed most pre-season friendlies. He returned for a 1-3 loss against Babelsberg yesterday, playing the first half.
Castro on Mount Brocken, long known as the most German place ever: http://www.eintracht.com/aktuelles/neues/u23-besteigt-brocken/
Late 19th century kitsch. But "the Brocken is a German", as Heinrich Heine said: https://books.google.de/books?id=SS...s a german"&hl=de&pg=PT98#v=onepage&q&f=false http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/d...ermany-fairytale-highs-in-the-Harz-Mountains/ (I was born in Quedlinburg, btw)
Eintracht II lost the first game of the season 1-3 at Meppen. Castro played 90 minutes and was involved in a chance early in the second half. Currently Eintracht II still doesn't have a complete squad, only 17 field players currently. The basic data on the current season (mostly the first, but alsoth e second team) can be found here (mostly updated by me): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016–17_Eintracht_Braunschweig_season
Mentioned in this preview (photo top row, second from left): Neben ihm darf allem Anschein nach Omar Castro wirbeln. Der US-Boy gefiel schon im vergangenen Jahr. http://regionalsport.de/eintracht-das-ist-die-neue-u23/
It says, that it seems as if he will be a starter in midfield (literally that he will twirl in midfield, but that's a stock football phrase), and that he made a good impression last year.
Not a particular good start for Eintracht II, with losses to Oldenburg (0-4) and HSV II (1-5). Castro was subbed in in the 76th minute against Oldenburg, and was subbed out at halftime against HSV.
This season, there seems to be a pretty good chemistry between the players. The squad has improved every year for quite some time (that a player like Matuschyk can't even make the bench these days would have sounded unlikely just a few years ago), but the last two seasons, the team didn't seem to have the fire the players in the eraly 2010s had.
First win of the season for Eintracht II - 1-0 at Eichede. Castro played 90 minutes and got his second yellow card of the season.
After not playing in a loss against Evil Empire 96 last week, Castro played 90 minutes again against ULM Wolfsburg today. He scored in the 2-0 win, second win of the season.
0-3 loss against Weiche... people who have followed this thread for some time might remember that they always lose against Weiche . According to the paper Castro played as a attacker (and 90 minutes again). He had two chances in the first half, both missed obviously.
Last week, Castro played 90 minutes again in a 1-1 against Hildesheim. The match report mentioned him again as having had a (missed) chance.
Castro played his by now usual 90 minutes in a 2-2 draw against St. Pauli II on monday. Other things of note: St. Pauli II has a player with the first name Sirlord.
Castro has been on the bench for the last two weeks, so not many Castro-related news. The team, after the bad start, is at least slowly climbing out of the relegation zone.
