I agree with you somewhat, but Stieber is faster than Asad by a long sight! If I were going to select players by speed alone, Stieber would be near the top of the list while Asad would be further down the list. Asad is the better goal scorer, but Stieber is the better defender, and free-kick taker, not to mention that he can put in a really good cross. That he hasn't gotten more playing time, is a strike against Ben.
He is a solid all-rounder, worth his salary on a team that has some rebalancing to do in that arena. We are at risk of losing one or both of Asad and stieber Even so, he's a 600k-type player making 1M, vs a 200k-type player making 150k(?) On a team that has 7 other players worth near or above league max, although Canouse is not making it yet. I am sad to say Stieber will likely be the sacrificial lamb.
Absolutely agree. Stieber is on the wrong side of 30, or very close and has a salary of $1M per year. Segura is mid-20's and is paid less than $200K. It would be malpractice to protect Stieber and not Segura. Does anyone think Cincy will take on a million dollar contract of a 30 year old who has trouble getting on the pitch for his team? If they do, great, that's a million dollars to spend on more and more useful players.
Scanned the lists and saw Perry Kitchen not protected by LAG -- what a downward trajectory after he left DCU. Looking at those lists, there is a lot of ""meh"" and many old, high priced players. My guess is that Cincy goes young and cheap with its five picks. The free agent list is ""meh"" as well. However, I notice Rodney Wallace is on the list -- does he still have the wheels to play in the back? In the name of whatever is holy, don't even think about Brek Shea.
For $200k and for a young player, Segura may be what you call a deck chair. But for someone to take Steiber's $1M salary would mean DC could sign a non-deck-chair at probably even a lower price who would be a lock starter, unlike Steiber.
So basically Colorado just took Darren Mattocks in the Expansion draft? edit: their graphics are terrible, the Colo trade could have taken place with the second player taken, not the first (Mattocks) I think I heard them say it was Kei Kamara who was traded, so never mind
Mattocks was gone anyways and now we don't have to worry about protecting players during the next expansion.
Acosta heading out? https://www.instagram.com/p/BrQV2RFBYGr/ His IG has an image with the caption "bye black and red" in emojis
Is there a different emoji for Bye and for Hi? Glad I don't know, but curious in this case I read that the team "liked" the post .....
I’m not sure in what universe Acosta would say he’s leaving like that. That is some next level reading too much into it
If we've reached the point in professional sports where this is a negotiating tactic, I'm done paying attention to offseasons.
As I was saying... This seems to be the universe we're living in. He was too good for our league last year I think... I hope we get a good amount of $ for him since it seems like he's headed elsewhere. Not really sure how else to read this post. If it's true, we should really think about buying a really really good striker to let Rooney play a little deeper, but with a striker and two dynamic wingers, Asad and Arriola, to complement him.
Urena would have been a nice pickup. He's very different than Mattocks, but he's more in keeping with our style. Frustrating to watch opportunites go by the board. There have been several deals now, where I'm like "We could have used that guy." Especially given we dropped half our roster. I trust there's a plan, but I think our tendency to sit and wait, while it may net us certain deals, leads to really ineffective preseasons, which serve mostly as extended tryouts rather than preparation for the first game. This year has to be different, but so far it doesn't _feel_ different. I'm also worried that protracted negotiations on Asad's purchase price might not be justified in light of the opportunity cost of all the deals we can't commit to between now and then.
He wasn’t too good for the league, let’s not be absurd. If he is gone then he acted like a true dickhead
He was too good for the shit sandwich team he was on. He also wasn't the type of player to improve the players around him. Rooney has helped him tremendously. Losing him would break up a good pairing. Hopefully he sticks around but I wouldn't begrudge him for going back to Argentina. James
