I would feel definitely feel much better if we got him or someone like him. It's hard to win in this league without a physically dominating cb anchoring your defense. Polenta was 6'1", 195 but quite strong and didn't shy away from contact. Neither Steres nor Gonzalez are those type of players.
Since 2018, Players of African descent out: A. Cole --> M. Ciani --> A. Lassiter --> B. Jamison IV --> O. Kamara --> E. Boateng --> D. Traore (loaned to GII) --> Players of African descent in: <-- Edit: I'm not trying to imply anything sinister here, but it is quite noticeable (at least to me) particularly in a league like MLS, which has lots of blacks from the US, the Caribbean and Central America, to have a team with no black people on it. But I think it's down to GBS' preferences for most positions. I get it, but I do think it's a blind spot for him.
I don't think we've ever had that many, compared to a typical team. Just my impression, who knows if correct.
Good point, but we need to use those resources to buy a real star or two. Pavon and Dos Santos are average DPs at best, IMO.
Average at best?! 26 teams, 52ish+ DPs. They’ not in the top 15? No way are they average. IMO, your suffering from a case of the Grumpy Galaxy. First appearing in 2015 and spreading wildly after the birth of LAFC, Grumpy Galaxy disease is known to rot the soul of any soccer loving Angelino that actually loved soccer before Seattle invented loving soccer and LAFC confirmed that loving soccer was cool. I wish you luck in your recovery.
The Galaxy players reported for physical yesterday, training camp starts tomorrow (I'll make a preseason thread later today). They just posted this video on Twitter : Let's get this show on the road. pic.twitter.com/nYwG3dfBna— LA Galaxy (@LAGalaxy) January 19, 2020 Two things to note : - Skjelvik is here (at 0:04). - At 0:24 you can see Los Dos defender Nick DePuy next to Vom Steeg.
What’s the upside with Zubak? I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything out of him that is promising/ intriguing yet here he is again. I wonder if the feel he is the back up striker. I hope we have something more proven in that spot.
Maybe No. 14 and No. 15, if I'm being generous. Yay. And Seattle and LAFC have had nothing to do with the Galaxy signing lackluster players and coaches resulting in next to no success since 2015.
Only upside I see is he fills a necessary roster spot on what must be a minimum salary and not planned to play except in unusual circumstances anyway.
Imagine living life, and walking around thinking Pavon is just an average DP in this league. Too many people thinking it’s Messi/Ronaldo or bust. Pavon is easily a top 5 player in this league, and JDS is probably the best all around central midfielder in MLS.
This doesn’t make me feel good. Hoping someone on the staff points this out. Excited about Chicharito!! Not excited to see Jorgen in that video. Boo.
You think that's bad. In Galaxy history not once have they brought in a player who's a woman! It does make me feel bad, though, that we don't have the next Gyasi Zardes fighting on G2 to break into the first team.
Don’t worry, two seasons ago Gio & Jona were amongst the biggest signings the league had made and a far bigger deal than Zlatan – I guess Jona’s fallen a few rungs since then to “average”.
Head in the sand. Do you even watch any non-Galaxy games? Or any Galaxy games, for that matter? Or are you just an extremely biased homer? If Pavon is a top 5 player in the league, he sure didn't play like it last season. And no way is dos Santos the best central midfielder in the league. 2 goals and 3 assists? Can't claim to be best central midfielder with those paltry stats. Though I give him full credit for being an extremely harder worker.
Ironic -- I remember fairly recently that our Galaxy seemed to be jettisoning Hispanic heritage players at a high rate. In 2013/14 five of our top six minutes players were Sarvas, Omar, Juninho, AJDLG and Penedo while Hector Jimenez and Jose Villarreal were our most used subs. A couple seasons later Bruce had replaced them all except AJDLG, who Klein then immediately dumped. Their replacements had names like Cole, Lletget, Larentowicz, Van Damme, de Jong, Ishizaki, Gerrard, Kennedy and Rowe. (Also dos Santos, but that doesn't fit the narrative!) Now GBS is "re-Latinizing" our team so it all goes full circle, round and round. But unless I see evidence to the contrary I'm going to assume none of these changes were rooted in the ugliness of racial/cultural prejudice. It is just FO's and coaching staff trying to improve our team in the way they know best. But what do I really know? Go Galaxy!
Only people who don’t watch games reference offensive stats only when talking about the effectiveness of a central midfielder. If Pavon had a full season (30+ games) he would’ve easily had a 10g/20a season last year.
LOL. So it's fine to use stats (made up "projected" stats no less) to support Pavon, but not dos Santos? OK...
No one is projecting JDS stats, genius. You’re providing offensive stats for a central midfielder, who is tasked as the number six most of the time. As if that’s what proves what value a central midfielder brings to the field. Pavon on the other hand, I’m just extrapolating his stats from 11 games and conservatively forecasting what they would’ve looked like over 30 game season.
https://www.instagram.com/p/B7jKW2sqwuC/?igshid=1jc8s83fgxe3b Romain Alessandrini announces his departure. It's a shame his two best years with us resulted in non playoffs qualifications (and a wooden spoon). Very good player who gave everything for our crest. Merci pour tout Romain et bonne chance pour la suite!
WarGalaxy is right on this one GalaxyOne - offensive stats are a tertiary measure at best for central mids who are tasked with defensive duties or who serve primarily as connectors. Otherwise Reyna would have maxed out at 200k/yr playing in MLS. I wouldn't necessarily say JDS is the best defensive CM in MLS but he's in the top 5. He's great in possession and as ball circulator and has maybe the highest work rate in MLS. But he's not an athletic ball winner and loses some physical battles. That's why ideally he would be paired with a physical, disruptor type DM. Pair him with an in-prime McCarty or Nagbe and they would completely rule the midfield.
