If it was a free transfer, MLS would pay him personally whatever it took. But there's no way they're going to pay an incredible transfer fee on top of that.
TV revenue would not go up for a few years as league is locked into a long term deal. CR7 would be a boon for broadcaster ans viewership numbers would go up, but that does not translate into more money for MLS, at least for the rest of the contract.
By and large teams usually pay for the transfer, but MLS makes it up as they go along. They paid for all of Clint’s transfer from Tottenham and I believe did the same for Bradley and maybe Jozy. True, national TV deal is up in 2022, but there’s international and local broadcasting rights. The former, in Europe, will be up end of next season and I don’t believe LAFC has a local broadcast deal yet – and not sure what if any of that goes to MLS. Even without any significant revenue from TV I still think $800K a year is a pretty good spend.
http://cornerofthegalaxy.com/2017/06/15/podcast-la-galaxy-get-punished-for-winning-more-soccer/ Good Corner of the Galaxy podcast. They discuss some of the younger players and they share our concerns about the academy.
His profile combined with actual talent level, could go a long way to attracting a better caliber of international to the league. When is our deal up, with that fine supplier of nutritional supplements?
FWIW. I think Ronnie is kicking up a fuss to get some of his admirers in politics to forgive the fine/back tax.
That and probably another raise. Threaten to leave right after you have a record breaking season and win the Champions League and La Liga, and Real will throw even more money at you.
How is LAFC the blue collar alternative? My impression of them is more the flashy, hip, urban team to LA Galaxy's boring suburban soccer mom team. I think either team would get by without too many complaints if Ronaldo is on their team.
And this was from the MLS website: With the summer transfer window nearing and a DP spot opening up, the LA Galaxy have been linked with a number of big-name players -- the latest is Colombian international goalkeeper David Ospina, who is currently under contract with Arsenal. Spanish publication has Don Balon has linked the 28-year-old with a move to Galaxy along with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Argentine forward Dario Benedetto.
No idea, that's what some of them claim as a reason to support them. Even some of the rhetoric from some of the owners is along those lines. They have a terribly confused identity because it's totally artificial at this point. Everyone gets to make LAFC what they want it to be right now. It's Shrödinger’s Soccer Team. When that lid comes off there are going to be some disappointed fans.
Well, that certainly is the image that LAFC wants you to have of them. Since there is no team yet, it's vapor ware but that is what they are trying to sell. LAG as the team of Beckham and Keane can hardly be described as the boring soccer mom team, but again that is what LAFC would like people to believe. Separate the marketing hype from the reality. And, yes, CR7 would be a jewel for either club. Not that our current management has an ice cubes chance in Hades of pulling that off.
http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/114/...mouse-tigres-president-denies-la?ICID=HP_BN_1 This is a denial of a rumor, which is that the Galaxy are making an offer to Gignac. Even if we were interested, a $25 million release clause sounds a bit too rich for MLS if Tigres is unwilling to negotiate.
Here is a different article on the Gignac rumor. Said that we have offered a $6 million transfer fee, but Tigres want double that: http://www.metro.us/sports/gignac-targeted-la-galaxy#.WUmNFKZsT80.twitter
So we are indeed targeting Gignac : http://www.metro.us/sports/gignac-targeted-la-galaxy#.WUmNFKZsT80.twitter I hate Gignac but he could turn as a solid signing. But if we really want to splash the cash, use it on Benedetto.
Apparently we've made an offer for him. For some reason I can't find the link I just looked at. But it's out there, I swear! I ain't making it up. $6 million.
According to french newspaper L'Equipe (solid source), french club Guingamp is interested in Clément Diop. His contract ends at the end of the year.
