Possession is actually a pretty meaningless stat. What you need is the double p. Possession with purpose. So far Canada is lacking real purpose.
62' 1-0 Rolfö shoots from 24m center, just wide right. Sweden are looking for more! Rolfo takes a rip from WAY downtown and it's well-hit, but off frame. #FIFAWWC pic.twitter.com/E3zyHce7QS— FOX Soccer (@FOXSoccer) June 24, 2019 64' 1-0 Canada subs in (1 of 3) #19 Adriana Leon for #15 Nichelle Prince. 65' 1-0 Beckie collects at 12m mid-right, spins down to 3m, cross blocked over by Jakobsson. 66' 1-0 Scott chests ball at box top arc left, half-volley off Asllani's left forearm. Ball skitters rightward, Fleming taps square right to Beckie at box top wide right. Beckie whips a cross to 6-top 1/4 left, Schmidt flick-heads wide left. VAR check for penalty! Just **** off! Beckie had no business taking that shot. EDIT I don't think I will ever emphasize enough on this: when you take a penalty, it's in the top corner or nothing.
Again we have a poorly taken PK. Canada is playing badly and that horribly taken PK does not help. She hit the ball at the absolutely easiest height for any decent keeper to reach it.
68' 1-0 Penalty upheld. Ball's momentum drove Asllani's left arm from tucked-tight to straight-out, can't overlook that. 69' 1-0 Beckie pk, right instep pull to 1/6 left low, Lindahl dives and blocks over endline left. She planted her left foot behind goalline, so that'll stand up. Sweden dogpile Lindahl PENALTY SAVE!!!Hedvig Lindahl makes a brilliant stop on Janine Beckie's attempt to keep Sweden on top! Really? I felt it was a poor shot by any standard of penalty-taking. The only way a goalkeeper can't save it at all is to blast that in the top corner of the goal. In my lifetime, the guy that I always liked watching taking a penalty was Ruud van Nistelrooy; his approach was very often no-nonsense, pace, power, and height into the top corner to the keeper's right. And yeah, Sinclair should have taken that kick if that's the only thing she's good at now.
71' 1-0 Rolfö jukes down mid-left, cross blocked over? 72' 1-0 Blackstenius slows up her run to 16m box left, cross intercepted by Zadorsky. 72' 1-0 Glas flicks a backpass to Fischer at own 15m wide right, Leon shoves Fischer down and lands-upon her. Foul on Leon. Fischer stays down, stretching out her right calf? 73' 1-0 Rubensson chases down box right to 8m, ground cross to 6m 1/4 right for Blackstenius crashing centerline, Buchanan slides and clears leftward. 74' 1-0 Chapman high cross from 25m wide left to 4m 2-left, Lindahl catches high.
She clearly had the face of the miss on her face, when camera closed up on her. I've got the feeling that you can almost always read on a player's face when she's going to miss a PK. She looked too much worried and unsure, behind the mask of made-up self-assurance.
