Rumor has it we're getting a NWSL team. Announcement tomorrow. https://www.fourfourtwo.com/us/feat...-fc-kansas-city-nwsl-relocation-news-analysis https://www.rslsoapbox.com/2017/11/15/16658560/rsl-announcement-potential-nwsl-team
One more new article about NWSL franchise http://www.sltrib.com/sports/rsl/20...-soccer-league-franchise-to-utah-next-season/
RSL says they have a major announcement tomorrow at 11am. I assume this is either the NWSL announcement, or something to do with KB/Rimando. My heart really wants it to be the release of Yura + signing someone of quality. I'd at least be fine with just the release part.
I don’t think Governor Herbert would be in attendance for a player announcement. This is for the NWSL team.
yes, we already have a women's team. This is a promotion. I doubt many of the players on the current team will make the move up, though.
According to one source, the current plan is for the current RSL Women's team to act as a feeder team for the new NWSL team. I know of at least one of the current players that was told she needed to be in attendance for the press conference. It'll be interesting to see how this all shakes out.
It didn't sound like a promotion to me. It sounded like the entire team was moving from KC to here so Dom Dwyer's wife would now be calling SLC her home. The next question is what will they name the team? FC SLC? RSL Lionesses? The Utah Bonny Highlanders?
it's more or less both is what I'm assuming here. We'll be "taking" FC KC's spot in the league. Likely this means we move a lot of those players over. At the same time, the previously existing RSL Women's team will now merge into this group. I hope they don't do something that is explicitly feminine just because the team is a women's team. Hell, just take what was there in KC and switch around some things. SLCFC
I don't think they can use Real or RSL in the branding. Both of those fall under the Adidas deal with MLS, and Nike is the sponsor for NWSL.
After the outrage around a phoenix for a high school mascot, I can only imagine how people would react to Queens.
I hadn't thought of this. If this women's team plays at Rio Tinto then the advertisement changing is going to be a nightmare. I'm wondering if the Monarch Stadium might actually be a better place for the team. I'm hopeful there would be more interest in the women's team than that stadium holds, but it would be better to start there and have sell outs then play in even a third full RioT, IMO.
Sydney Leroux is the obvious headliner of the FC KC roster. However, there are some other really good players on that team. I would love if they made a move to get Ohai from Houston
It may not just be the kit deal. NWSL isn't affiliated with MLS and Real and RSL fall under MLS trademarks. That's why Portland, Houston, and Orlando, have teams with MLS ownership but not similar names.
I thought that Monarch stadium was planned all along to be the home of the Monarchs and the future RSL women's team.
