NASL COMMISSIONER TO SPEAK AT NPSL COMBINE TOURNAMENT
The National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) is proud to announce that North American
Soccer League (NASL) Commissioner Bill Peterson will be a guest speaker at the NPSL
Combine Tournament in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
"The NPSL is a very important part of the soccer landscape in the U.S.," Peterson said. "The
league continues to grow, and we're seeing improved talent on the field. I'm looking forward
    to being there this weekend."
Peterson was named Commissioner of the NASL on November 27, 2012.
No stranger to North American soccer having worked closely with MLS teams when he was
the Senior Vice President of AEG Sports and Managing Director of the Home Depot Center
from 2000 to 2006, Peterson helped oversee the management of numerous MLS teams and
the development of soccer-specific stadiums across the country.
Most recently Peterson provided advisory and event services to a variety of clients in Canada
and the United States through his own firm Solve4. Peterson is the Chairman of the USA
Cycling Board of Directors and a member of the USPRO Cycling Board of Trustees and
served briefly as COO of the UFL.
He was the Executive Vice President of Centerplate, the North American market leader for
managing food and beverage, retail, restaurant, and events in sports facilities, convention
centers, and entertainment complexes. He spent six years working with a variety of teams,
facilities and sporting events while Senior Vice President at AEG in Los Angeles. Peterson
spent almost a decade working for the National Football League where he became the
President of NFL Europe having been the General Manager of the league’s Amsterdam
    Admirals.
English Premier League (EPL) coach Chris Ramsey, who currently works for Queens Park
Rangers FC, was already announced as a guest speaker earlier this week.

    NPSL COMBINE RESULTS
Salvatore Barone and Bobby Ross lead the tournament in scoring
The Midwest Region reigned supreme at the 2015 NPSL Combine Tournament after two impressive wins against formidable competition. The Midwest Region team defeated the West Region team 2-1 on Saturday followed by a 2-1 win over the South Region on Sunday afternoon.
The combine tournament got off to a great start with an exciting match between the South and Northeast Region teams. It would be decided on penalty kicks after Salvatore Barone (Brooklyn Italians) and Ehjayson Henry (Jacksonville United FC) each scored for their respective regions. The South would emerge victorious, topping the Northeast 3-2 on PKs.
“I have to give credit to the whole team,” Chattanooga FC and South Region goalkeeper Gregory Hartley goalkeeper stated. “In the last few minutes we were ‘under the hammer’ and had to keep calm and defend as a team. And then came the PKs. What can I say? I guess right and help my team to the win.”
The Midwest got their first win thanks to goals from FC Buffalo’s Bobby Ross and Lansing United’s Brian Cunningham. Eder Guzman (SF Stompers) scored the lone goal for the West on Saturday.
“Overall it was a good performance for our first match together,” Midwest Region and Lansing United head coach Eric Rudland commented. “I thought we built a better team rhythm as the match went on.”
Everyone was in awe of the strike from Cunningham, including Rudland.
“Cunningham displayed great pace with that ball, beating their right back on the end line and somehow, with a bad angle, was able to slide the ball past the goalkeeper. It was a class finish.”
Saturday’s winners moved on to the championship match the following afternoon, but not before the Northeast and West Regions faced off in the consolation game. Roberto Farfan (Spartans FC) tallied a goal for the West Region, while Barone later added one for the Northeast. The West would need penalty kicks to decide this one, getting past the Northeast with a 5-4 advantage on PKs.
The championship match saw goals from Ross, Tyler Pasher (Lansing United), and Ezequiel Tejera (Miami United). A total of two goals from Ross would give him a share of the scoring lead (tied with Barone) for the weekend and help the Midwest Region claim the title.
Thomas Beck (AFC Cleveland) summed up his team’s championship win and the weekend as a whole in a few quick sentences.
“All in all, it was a wonderful event and experience put on by the NPSL. My hat goes off to the organization for their dedication to offering players the best chance of continuing forward with soccer. The league made it clear that this weekend is strictly about and for the players, something every player truly appreciated.”
Off the field, both Bill Peterson (NASL Commissioner) and Chris Ramsey (QPR Head of Player Development and Academy Manager) both spoke at the team dinner on Saturday night, offering NPSL players and coaches different perspectives on the professional game.

The Fort Worth Vaqueros are looking toward a new goal – building a stadium of their own.

The minor league soccer team currently plays at Texas Wesleyan University’s Martin Field, but if plans follow through for the new stadium, the Vaqueros will have a facility that seats 5,000 people on the inside and has space for mixed uses on the outside, said Fort Worth Vaqueros owner Michael Hitchcock, speaking to the Fort Worth City Council on Tuesday.

“For this sport to realize the incredible potential it has in this market, we need a facility that allows us to provide the right fan experience, allows us to generate the revenue that’s required to put the best product on the field, to invest in the growth of the sport,” he said.

FORT WORTH _ The Fort Worth Vaqueros opened their official National Premier Soccer League season Saturday night at Martin Field with a 1-1 draw against Houston Regals SCA in a game that featured several momentum swings.
Corwin Carbonell sent a cross screaming across the goalmouth from the right side of the pitch on a counter-attack in the 39th minute that Hilton Fube Ngwa sent home for the Vaqueros’ lone goal. Head coach Mark Snell said his team was on the counter so often in the first half because Houston proved, “difficult to play against.”
“They kind of pinned us back, and we weren’t getting behind them,” Snell said. “The second half we came out strong and took control of the game.”
The overflow crowd rolled into Martin Field for the South Central Conference opener.
Fort Worth (0-0-1, 1 point) had 25 minutes of possession in the second half, compared to Houston’s 20.
Still, Houston (0-0-1, 1 point) was able to equalize in the 54th minute on a header. The Vaqueros had several chances to seize the game back after a Houston red card in the 57th minute, but were unable to finish.
Man of the match winner Akeem Leaman said even though he thought Fort Worth would be able to escape with a win, the team will have plenty of momentum heading into its next match at Dallas City FC on May 14.

17-year-old professional goalkeeper to join development team for NPSL season

The Fort Lauderdale Strikers today announced the loan of 17-year-old first team goalkeeper Matias Reynares to Strikers U-23, the player development side of the club that competes in the Sunshine Conference of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL).

The Strikers U-23 regular season runs from Sunday, May 22, until Wednesday, July 6. The loan will provide Reynares with substantial playing time and competitive match experience.

Reynares will continue to train with the first team, alongside Bruno Cardoso and Diego Restrepo, while his development is shaped by Strikers Goalkeepers Coach Ricardo Lopes.

Under NPSL rules, the Strikers can loan its first-team professional players to Strikers U-23 without affecting the amateur status of the U-23s and the NCAA eligibility of its players.

Strikers U-23 kick off their inaugural season away to Miami United FC this Sunday at Milander Park in Hialeah, before their first-ever home match at Lockhart Stadium on Wednesday, May 25. U-23 matches at Lockhart are free and open to the public.
