I get it, and I have serious doubts that 2/3 of the announced teams in this league will last longer than 2 years, but I don't fault them for trying. This is a league whose successes are largely based on another league petering out. I'm pretty sure that faceplants are the natural state for 2/3 of the league. Like you, I feel like focusing on the weather report in Philadelphia is the wrong end of the stick. It may come out that the hurricane was a cover to buy more time, and even then, if they make up the game, does it really matter all that much?
I’d also like to point out that they are rescheduling the game on a Monday night in November. Doubt anyone will show up.

Ok, I am so confused by this clown show of a league. Are they awarding two cups for this short "season?"
Could be 3 or 4 trophies. This one for what was supposed to be the inaugural game but wound up being the second one, there are East and West championship games in November for 3, and there might be a league championship game after that although it is not on the schedule.
Amazing, fans in San Diego haven’t even seen this team yet, and somehow they’ve already failed to win their first hardware.
LA Force twitter doesn't mention the Challenge Cup victory. Actually they haven't tweeted since August 16.
I noticed that too. Their Facebook page is the same way and the link to their Instagram is broken. Was anyone actually there?
Highlights of the inaugural So Cal Deathmatch!! https://mycujoo.tv/video/la-force?id=ck05nq7fschgz0h5vshtzgqi2 According to the highlights on the right-hand side, full-time was called after 47 minutes after which the game continued. And the announcer doesn't seem to know any of the players' names on either team. I guess you have to start somewhere. Is LA Force related to FC Golden State Force who play in USL L2?
Looks like it. NISA's website says Bob Friedland owns LA Force and he mentions FC Golden State Force in the article there. And according to FC Golden State Force's website Robert Friedland is their head coach. Could be a clone created by the SUM conspiracy, though.
Thanks for the video. I find myself so torn. On one hand is the local San Diego soccer fan in me that is excited to have something tangible and D3 or above to root on locally, and will even be excited to watch them lose in this recap. Then there’s the side of me that is looking at the 1904 team objectively and what a shitshow they’ve made of it so far, who knows something far better is very likely to materialize in 6-18 months with the USL side, that wants to do nothing more than laugh. It’s very frustrating.
I went to the Oakland Roots friendly against FC Juárez on Sunday. Packed house, lively crowd. Juárez won 4-2 after going up 3-0 in the first 12 minutes. It was an Oakland crowd--I didn't see a Juárez shirt anywhere, though I'm sure there were some somewhere. The Roots are doing a lot of things very well in the area of operations and community engagement. I must correct an earlier post since this was my first visit to Laney College Stadium. The smaller stands opposite the main stand are a permanent part of the facility, not temporary stands brought in for the Roots. I don't know what official capacity they are claiming--they don't seem to be making attendance figure announcements.
They listed it as another sell out. I believe it’s somewhere between 3.75 to 5k. I figured this game would be a sell out. I’m interested to see how the next NISA game does. All in all I’m leaning towards another sell out. They’ve done a great job with community involvement.
1904 may not be getting much attention locally (I’ve yet to hear mention of them anywhere locally in SD), but ESPN gave them some ink. https://www.espn.com/soccer/united-...-soccer-team----just-dont-reference-anchorman
Only people I know in SD that know about them are die hard fans of the sport. But it pays to have famous owners.
Another reason I think they’re screwed, once USL San Diego launches (if 1904 last that long). Landon Donovan is a household name to the point my soccer knowledgeless mother knows who he is... Demba Ba and Eden Hazard even I had to look up. They’re famous but only in certain circles, the diehards and hardcore as you say. And that’s not enough to keep a team alive.
Well 1904 FC definitely isn’t playing the long game being at Qualcomm Stadium hoping to get into the Aztecs new stadium in Mission Valley. Apparently SDSU has been having discussions with the USL San Diego team, not 1904 FC about future tenancy at the new Aztecs venue. https://thedailyaztec.com/95018/news/sdsu-reveals-new-stadium-renderings-student-specific-amenities/
And 1904 are going to go head to head with the D2 USL side a year earlier than expected. Donovan’s USL side begins play in March 2020. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.sa...arren-smith-usd-torero-stadium-2020?_amp=true
Nope. Not when the USL side is in the best stadium location for minor league soccer, wants to expand it, is having discussions with SDSU about using the new Aztecs Stadium, has a big money investor apparently waiting in the wings, actually has a FO, and is led by arguably the most recognizable name in US soccer in the last 30 years+. And they’re now launching before 1904 has a chance to make inroads. 1904 FC has a lifespan that can be measured in months now, not years, IMO.
Chris Kivlehan @kivlehan Breaking: Two sources tell me that the Philadelphia Fury will be suspending operations in @nisaleague until the Spring season. No comment yet from the club. This will clearly impact the Fall Showcase schedule. I mean ... we all kinda knew, but damn did they make that decision quick.
