    I really was hoping the final signings would have been in by now, but obviously that hasn't happened. And the old thread was over 500 posts, so time for a new one.

    I'm concerned. Sequels are never as good as the original.

    Absent cap shenanigans we only have 1 roster slot left for the type of signing we are looking for. If the mystery signing's papers ever come through that will fill our 20 man senior roster. Any future signings will have to go on the off cap/developmental roster, which precludes the kinds of players many of us are looking for, or will require us to waive currently signed players (not that many of us would have problems with that).

    If we acquire a striker, I think Dube's gone. If Stolica has a Jankauskas-type season, he's gone. I'm not sure how long of a project Nicol considers Boggs to be, but he seems to be the lowest-ranked field player on the depth charts.

    If the rumor of a LM close to signing is true and they are infact "stepping up their efforts for a Striker" then someone on the senior roster will be handed their walking papers. With 3 SI spots available, it could be anyone, foreign or domestic, who gets cut. It will be interesting to see who

    Boggs is not under contract and if he signs, it will be a Dev contract. With one spot open towards the Cap, it won't be Boggs who gets it

    We need attacking help... period, and sooner rather than later; this isn't something the Revs can sit on and wait out.

    At this point I have serious doubts something didn't get screwed up with Mystery Winger's paperwork. Billelo tweeted about the impending signings in late January, and this is past even Burns' "get them in camp by the end of February" remark. Despite how tricky the paperwork can be, no way should ONE of the documents not be in by now.

    A concrete update on the team website would be greatly appreciated.

    More like hopeful to annoyed for me.

    Based on their own comments, I should be wondering where the DPs (I'm pretty sure they used the plural)are, and where the 3rd international signing is. By logic I should probably be asking when the hell they are going to sign a striker or an AM. But I"m trying to hold the bar as low as possible. All I'd like to hear is who this third signing is. And they can't (so far) deliver even on that.

    How does an organization that seems to spend so much time on under-promising still manage to disappoint?

    #revs still waiting on paperwork to sign a Nigerian winger. NE coach Steve Nicol said the new man to compete for time on the right. -- Kyle McCarthy

    Agreed, in these days of technology and overnight/same day mail, no way should it take a month to get paperwork signed. Seems to me it was the Revs FO blowing smoke up our butts

    Our defense looks OK for depth, if not necessarily top-notch at every position.

    Our midfield is mainly lacking what we say we're about to announce--an MLS starting-caliber LM.

    Our forward line is the weakest in the whole league outside of Vancouver (now that DC has Charlie Davies) and a complete embarrassment. Did Stolica-Dube-Schilawski even combine for 10 goals last season?

    I'd kill for Portland's young-ish strike force of Cooper and Nagbe and Perlaza, and they're an expansion club.

    If our LM is also well into his 30s, then we will be attempting to build a championship team with no core and no possibility of one and be back at square one every year or two getting more old guys to replace old guys.

    It's an acquisition strategy which makes no sense in MLS 2011. This isn't 1998 anymore where the Fire brought in a few old Euro bodies and were good enough to take the league.

    Which means we are subjected to Teirney as LM for the season. Nothing personal against him but he is a utility player. Now we have Kinne, Nyassi and player X who will all be fighting for time on the right. To say this is dissapointing is an understatement

    Looks like it's a RM that we are signing according to McCarty's latest tweet. I guess Nicol has Perovic and Tierney on the left.

    Now we're getting someplace:

    * Nigerian..
    * Plays right wing..
    * Someone who's going to compete for time on the right but isn't a lock...

    Perovic at LM won't be much help defensively either. LM and Striker are the weekest spots on this team and they go ahead and bring in a RM. As you said, Nyassi is servicable and Kinne sounds like he is making Nyassi look over his shoulder. Unless this guys comes in and is a huge upgrade over Nyassi, its not a good move for this team

    this is the part that worries me. This team needs starters not guys that are competing for time.

    I like getting this information as it at least gives us some more information on the mystery winger. On the other hand, this information does not seem to indicate a player who is going to fill one of the bigger needs on the team or be the kind of impact player I've been hoping for. If our off season signings turn out to be Domi, Dabo, Coria and this winger I don't see the kind of dramatic improvement the Revs need in our future. At best we are another middle of the pack team hoping to scrape into the playoffs and get on a roll.

    Perovic is a midfielder, I'm not sure why everyone wants him playing up top. Sure, he probably plays better as an attacking midfielder over a left-wing position, but he did fine there. I believe the team when they say they're looking for a striker, though I don't believe they're acting with any sense of urgency, being entirely confident in the ability of Stolica.

    I don't consider LM a dire need.

    I am however disappointed that this big third signing turned out to be a backup for Nyassi. We'll certainly have better competition this year for positions, which could force everyone up a notch, but I want more impact players like Marko.

    Oh, believe me, I know--which is why my "narrative" had us getting a kickass, fast LM, pushing Marko centrally with Stoli until we brought in a true DP striker to take over from Stoli.

    That way, our slowness and age would be mainly confined to the center of the park, where it could be covered by ball control, while Domi could be our overlap-and-cross specialist from the left, giving Stoli the aerial service he needs.

    Silly me for thinking.

    Either Tierney or Perovic is a defensive liability at LM and will negate Domi's greatest strength, forcing him to defend deeper and more often.
