Would you take them seriously if we were #1? I don't take it as serious, but it is a freaking wake up call that needs to be looked at. Chepo didn't even reach being ranked 40.

Before everyone starts losing their shit, you should learn how the Rankings work. Because Concacaf has such a low quality coefficient, the World Cup is a bigger percentage of our total available points that it is for Euro or Conmebol teams. Also, the last 4 years are weighed in terms of importance with the most recent year being worth more than the 4th year. The reason we see these big drops is because in this month, the last WC drops from year 1 to year 2 and therefore it is worth less than it was last month when it was still in year one. The Copa America has nothing to do with this, on the contrary, our ties against Bolivia and Chile gave us some points for the month of June that the rest of Concacaf dont have. When we used to be ranked highly in the Fifa Rankings, it was because they used to take the last 8 years of competition and therefore our two Round of 16 finishes in back to back WCs really helped us. Now, they only take 4 years and it makes it almost impossible for Concacaf to be in the top 10 without running the tables in almost every tournament. Hell, CR finished in the top 8 last world cup but they will probably be in the 30s. But of course the media doesnt know this because they are stupid.
Yea, its bullshit. CR drop has to so with them not playing an official game in a hear, which is not their fault. The winner of the Gold Cup will end up in the 20s.
The only rankings that matter during seeding are 1 through 8. Everything else is put in pots according to geographical zone. It isn't entirely Piojo's fault either. There's a combination of factors going on here: The rankings count everything in the past four years. This month is the cutoff for the 2011 Gold Cup, which is the last time we got a shitload of points in a short period of time. The points from last World Cup now enter their second year, so they are cut in half, further taking us down a notch. It's also the reason Costa Rica is so low despite their amazing World Cup. The two Copa Américas, despite being with alternative teams, are counted as official for the rankings. That skews them even more downwards. Euro qualifiers finally started, giving tons of European countries extra bonuses.
