Someguy named Eric Nicodemusis my new hero. Add himtothe list of guys I'm going to get drunk. New Mapfre: Dodge Park site: Nationwide site:
When I look at our possibilities, I see the NIMBYs getting involved in both the Berliner Park and Dodge Park sites similar to what is happening in Austin and for similar reasons. I also did not think there was that much space on the Nationwide site.... But that would probably be the best. I'd also like to know who owns the property in front (or should that be in back of) COSI--the stuff to the west anyway. Build a parking garage for the stadium, COSI, and the new Vets and you'd have something.
Love me some stadium porn. Well, actually I usually hate it. Just not this time. Add the new BrewDog brewpub location on 463 W Town Street re: the Dodge Park site: http://drinkupcolumbus.com/2018/01/17/brewdog-bars-columbus/ Plus, the whole peninsula directly to the east of the stadium site will be transformed over the next 5-10 years: http://nbc4i.com/2017/12/05/developer-selected-for-huge-franklinton-development-project/ http://www.columbusunderground.com/buckingham-companies-scioto-peninsula
So I am not as hardcore, born in the bosom of Columbus as some of you around here are. Currently who/what owns each of those pieces of land? If this topic has been asked and answered, then please kindly direct me to the information. I resemble that remark.
I had assumed the park locations were a swipe at the Austin attempt to use parkland, and not actually a proposal for a site, but perhaps I'm wrong
There will almost definitely be a stage built in. Doesn't mean it can't fit in a little more naturally than the current one.
FWIW, it seems as though Mapfre sits on 15 acres, including the paved parking areas (from what I can tell). I don't think that all of the images shown above are necessarily to scale. That Dodge Park site, for example, is 16 acres large. You could put in a Mapfre-esque stadium, and roughly the same amount of dedicated parking we have now in the paved sections, but that would fill the site. The image shows the site on acreage that's larger than the park, near as I can tell. Parking Lot B and the garage aren't on park land. And I don't think the little rectangular peninsula of green space directly to the west of Parking Lot B is, either. Though that property is undeveloped and may be cheap to acquire. You can read the open letters from Ginther and Fischer (where sites are discussed) here: http://www.columbusunderground.com/mayor-pens-open-letter-to-crew-ownership-to-discuss-partnership
FWIW, I know for a fact that the guys who did this spent a good deal of time on the measurements, including using drones for exact mapping. Whatever else it may be, it ain't that bogus elephant in a peanut shell crap.
A few months ago I sat in on a presentation by the UA surveying and mapping profs. They showed off their toys (I mean drones). Pretty darn expensive toys. I recall the profs saying the drones have been become quite exact with measurements, and the time spent is such a small fraction of time in comparison.
I realize its not the time to dream quite yet, but I've always thought the Promenade at Mapfre does us no favors on TV. I enjoy the openness and its nice to feel connected to the game when you are in the long lines at the food stands. However a "drop count" attendance of 17,000 might only look like 15,500 on TV. It encourages casuals to hang out rather than participate and cheer on the team. It's a hold over from our minor league days where it was the baseball style marketing of party decks and group areas. The precedent has been set that the stands need to be full. Soccer thrives on emotion. Whatever comes in the future, the open concourses need to go away and we need to encourage people to stay in their seat.
I'm pretty sure Eric's intention more than anything was to as realistically as possible show how a potential new stadium could fit in all of the known potential sites. Just seeing visual models like this....seeing what CAN potentially exist...can have a big impact and help keep people motivated in the fight to save the team.
Honestly, I doubt a Dodge Park/Franklinton Stadium would have much dedicated parking besides maybe parking structures....I highly doubt there would be surface lots. When you consider all the the big development taking place in the neighborhood and you consider when a potential new stadium would actually be completed.....there will most likely be a decent amount of parking options throughout the neighborhood within easy walking distance in the not too distant future. His spot labeled "parking garage" is currently in construction to become this....
Visuals are powerful, absolutely. We know that the final product, if it is ever built, will most likely bear no resemblance to the artists rendition, but it obviously helps in these campaigns to have something people can look at. I think this is smart. And it is certainly more realistic and professional looking than that ridiculous thing PSV posted for Austin. Sad! What' amazing is that this is normally done by billionaires trying to sell a city on a team bid, and they spend a lot of money on this stuff, but in Columbus a true grass-roots non-billionaire outfit can beat them at their own game. It was a shame when that rendition the C.F. guy did on his own using the Abbott Lab site got shot down in, like, nanoseconds. Even he himself said the point was to nudge along the conversation, not necessarily to start moving dirt.
Personally I think that the next Tiny Demon Fortress should be steeper. It helps with tifo and it puts everyone a little closer to the pitch. It would also reduce the size needed to fit into some of these spaces.
