Are you saying that only out of contract out of work coaches should interview? That's a pretty big restriction.
I think in the world of professional soccer self advocacy and self-preservation are part of the "game". For a young motivated coach moving up the chain must be a main component of his plan. I would imagine MLS is a steppingstone… If it moves us forward, I'll take it.
There also was not much to criticize either. If you would have asked me over/under a 2 goal defeat for New Zealand I would have taken the over.
It did show that he has experience coaching a team with less talent than his opponent. Maybe it’s a match made in heaven. He also wasn’t afraid to throw attackers forward once they went down 1-0, that’s new compared to Pablo.
I don't think Pablo was ever (or very often, if ever) in a situation where at 1 - 0 getting to 1 - 1 would be a win. In this match that would have been the case. Another tactical possibility would have been to double down on defense at 1 - 0 and then throw everything forward in the last 8 - 10 minutes to try and equalize with very little time for Peru to get the lead back. Going forward earlier may have led to 2 - 0 and match over? Someone could probably get a PhD with Game Theory and away goals in second legs of tied (first leg) home and home matches. ;>)
If Anthony has half the football smarts as a coach as his dad had as a player he should do fine. George Best once told Alan Hudson that he was the "best midfielder in England". Former NASL Sounders coach Alan Hinton said that if he had played in Germany he would have been as famous as Franz Beckenbauer. Good luck with Anthony if he gets hired.
Um, this doesn't sound good: http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=11945101
Sadly moving on to MLS ... and to the Colorado Rapids ... are two somewhat different things at this point.
Oh please don't let anybody in the RFO be saying "Hey, Caleb Porter's available and we can get him for cheap . . ."
Porter may have quit in order to take A) The USMNT job or B) Head coach of one of the imminent-to-be-announced expansion teams, like Nashville, Miami, or Cincinnati. If he takes the Rapids job I'll eat my hat.
Them's the facts. I don't think it'll happen but Porter would be a big upgrade for the Rapids, and more proven then anyone we've ever seen the team hire. The list of requirements for the new coach gets more unrealistic everyday.
This sounds like just what was reported before, almost word for word from my crappy memory. Yep, found it
https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2017...arts-ways-portland-timbers-after-five-seasons Well, and Portland. But of course we're lagging behind.
The more things change, the more they stay the same. Granted I am fine with this as long as they stay away from MLS retread coach pile. The Timbers are the seventh MLS club that will see a head coaching change in 2017, an all-time single-season high in MLS. Only the Colorado Rapids have yet to fill their vacancy with the Montreal Impact (Remi Garde) and the New England Revolution (Brad Friedel) announcing the league's most recent coaching hires last week.
Would it be bad to suggest Porter is taking time off to check himself into a backpfeifengesicht recovery clinic?
So the USMNT and the Rapids, and perhaps a set of expansion teams, not to mention Portland and whomever else parts ways with their coach, are *all* lining up for the available coaches that would take these positions. I do think Caleb goes to an expansion team. Lord know who takes the USMNT job, after the interim in place now...2022 is just around the corner..... 50-50 Pablo gets another shot in MLS I think MLS is still going to use re-run coaches, but may shift to Europe, with less CONCAFA & South America. Scream of the year, Jose Dely-Valdes returns as Rapids Coach (naaah, maybe JDV's brother...). Maybe the RFO gets so frustrated it tells JaMa "Sheez, you seem to know everything, so *YOU* try running the team" "Caleb Porter is available at a cheap price" Sorry, had to quote that..... I re-post that I want 2016 back again, again. Did I mention I enjoyed 2016? Sigh 2018 is right around the corner.. R
LAFC the 2018 Expansion team already has Bob Bradley as coach. Miami if and when they ever get there (not 2018 for sure) I think has no coach.
