If that is true about the secondary kits, then they just continue to look like a cookie-cutter MLS franchise. How many MLS clubs have gone with all-white secondaries over the years? It's a pretty high percentage and it's extremely boring and nondescript as a result. And speaking of results...
If I reveal my source I'd have to kill you, sorry. If you want the really depressing other side of the story, I'll share. According to the same source, the Union proposed a kit that was a bright yellow and a light blue. Think SOB colors, Philadelphia flag, and those old Eagles throwback jerseys. They sounded pretty sweet. MLS shot the idea down and the whites were somewhat of a plan B. Sounds like the plan was for the ones we keep asking for, but apparently will never actually get. Why can't we have nice things!?
Because we are not LA or NYC or Seattle. Each of which have had some jersey abominations, I would add.
Seattle had the special Gears single match setup last Sunday, perhaps a disgraceful twitter hashtag blast could turn the tide?
Oh this angers me. How they supposed to build a brand with that generic ass bullshit they were wearing last night ?
I, what, um, huh? You no likey the quilted star pattern? MY sources say there will be a new jersey sponsor next year ...
Did your source have any idea what the league's problem with the yellow and blue secondary jersey was? Because they probably would have sold a lot more of them if they didn't look like the unimaginative role of quilted Charmin they settled on. I saw very few of them around TES over the last 2 years.
Thanks, I am really curious to know. Every time I see the secondary jersey I think, "Really? That's the best they could come up with?" It restores a little bit of my faith in the FO that the problem is with the league and not the Union.
Yep, this is exactly the feeling that I got when discussing this. I can't even fathom a reason why this would have been a problem. Nobody wears these colors, other teams have kits that are far different from their team colors, etc.
The thing is, I don't even think the Charmin whites are that bad, I''m just annoyed that a) the league would interfere for some reason and that b) pro teams have to settle for template-based designs. These aren't over-30 league teams; why can't they hire designers and tell Adidas what they want, instead of the other way around? Okay, money, but still!
The story about the original union shirt and the Bethlehem Steel alternate were completely the opposite story though.
Adding to this, guess which jerseys are more popular with fans? I don't have any data to support this other than the frequency with which I see fans wearing the various jerseys or the quantities on the sale rack when they phase them out, but it seems like they are leaving a lot of money on the table with generic template designs since fans don't buy them as much as the shirts that have a historical basis or are unique in some other way.
To echo this, I didn't buy this year's shirt at all. Its fine, but there was nothing compelling about it compared to any other year. The only other one I didn't buy was the home with the priest collar. I think I now have shirt fatigue.
Thought I would start this since we are already talking about it elsewhere and we are all going to have a lot more to say about it the over winter since we don't have a playoff campaign to discuss. Requests: 1. Please move away from the restroom paper product theme. 2. No monochrome white! Something with actual colors and patterns that doesn't look like what my high school team wore in 1996. Bonus request: Please release them before the holidays so I can put it on my Christmas list. Now if only I had special moderator super powers, I could move the other conversation from the TFC gameday thread...
I would love it if they did a version of the primary in black with light blue accents/stripe. Or anything black.
I wouldn't mind a return to a gold secondary shirt, just don't do the center stripe down the front this time! It's a unique color to the league.
Scanned the whole thread waiting for someone to throw some terrible mock ups or some Nike that make no sense. None exist. I am proud boys and girls. Good job!
