Feyenoord played hard all match but the talent gap is just too huge. I counted only three English players who saw action (Stones, Sterling, and Walker); everyone else was foreign and even the three English players were developed at other EPL teams. Money rules these days and there are not enough Dutch Guilders to overcome that fact of life.
Shakhstar isnt exactly rolling in cash, and they took care of Napoli. Yes I know money helps, but the fact we're not producing much talent is the real factor IMO. EDIT: oh, and look at Leipzig!!! Or Besiktas!!
Last year they beat Manchester United that had just freshly bought Pogba and the others for some huge money. The argument of money doesn't work very well, especially for City which hasn't achieved anything in Europe yet and always lose to inferior/poorer teams.

Television money wasn't the factor back then and the Bosman ruling only came down that year so player salaries were not the factor they are today.

Well, that went swell. After 2 minutes an unfortunate handling of the ball made it comfortable for ManCity. They didnot have to get nervous with that fast lead. The rest is history.
That's the excuse Gio has used. Truth is that Feyenoord was missing 2 starters and Gio put two others on the bench willingly. For a club like Feyenoord, that's a big pain since the quality on the bench is limited, at least for certain spots Jorgensen/ Kramer being the best example imo. I did not want Feyenoord to keep Kramer this summer, this guy is good for ADO or Roda, he isn't even good enough for AZ. I always thought if Jorgensen gets injured, Feyenoord will lose a lot of quality using Kramer in CL and that's what happened. I'd prefer Boetius to play as ST and Larsson as LW rather than using Kramer if Jorgensen is missing. Same case for Nelom, Feyenoord should have sold him as well, especially to Espanyol if they were really interested. He is definitely not CL level and they had to use him. Despite the missing players, I think Gio should have played with his normal 4-3-3, with Toornstra and Diks. He tried to do something and that failed, I thought he would at least take the responsability on him but he prefered to say that City was just too strong, the early goal cancelled any hope for Feyenoord etc. a bit more and he would talk about the money difference like De Boer was doing. Stop the victimization, dutch clubs have showed they can put big performances against top clubs several times. I wasn't even asking for a victory or a draw, but at least a small loss with some good football. Not a trash 0-4 home. No excuse for it but Gio's choices.

0-1 loss to PSV with Berghuis getting sent off in the first half. Feyenoord was the better squad in the second half, but several chances went begging. Toornstra in particular wasn't on target enough times. With the 0-4 in the CL, we have now gone 180 minutes without a goal. Ouch. Starting lineup: Jones Diks, Botteghin, van der Heijden, Haps El Ahmadi, Vilhena Toornstra Berghuis, Kramer, Boetius Subs: Amrabat on for Kramer in second half, Basacikoglu on for Haps, and Vente on for van der Heijden. Boetius looked good running the offense from a central position after Kramer left. Next match I would like to see Basacikoglu, Boetius, and Larsson across the front line. The Gazelle Lineup.
Watching PSV and Ajax I have to say we are far better with 10 men than those two with eleven players on the pitch. It is astonishing how far those two dropped in respect to Feyenoord. I was worried after core players left and we substituted them with unproven players. But the signs are now that we have bought in the right players to replace them. Sucks though we lost the match.
