Personally, I always enjoy watching the Dutch play. They've looked the better of Italy by far (despite Ruud's first offside goal).

i guess they start from a presumption that a player is uninjured .

unless there is strong indication that he is injured, he's active.

italy will advance past those two stiffs from this morning; but they're not looking like they're going far.

Seriously? Did you not read the discussion about how the goal was not offsides? Or are you just trying to be funny?

The good thing is that these commentators might end up learning something new out of this.

Even if you count the first goal offside there was Van Persie given off when he is clean through and onside.

Holland have just been too quick and too sharp going forward for Italy. It's deserved to be a thrashing.

I hope so. Funny how ESPN and Fox before them refuse to hire anyone who actually knows anything about the game.

Despite that messed up goal call, I've enjoyed these announcers. They've stayed focused on the game and are pretty easy to listen to. That stat about Holland not beating Italy in 30 years is incredible. Must feel good to break that jinx.

Terrific. Maybe you'd care to find another example of a goal where a defender is lying 2-3 metres over the line and prostrate after receiving what looked a facial injury and is deemed to be playing someone onside?

    Good luck :)

If you have a problem with it, contact FIFA. But until then, it was a legit goal.

The Dutch were able to shake off a little of that bitter taste from Euro 2000.

Re: Netherlands vs Italy - Monday 9th June

My point was that he insulted a poster who was na official and posted the correct rule, later proven to be correct by the laws of a game. Thus the apology request.

And just because most officials are crap doesn't change the fact that the rule was applied correctly. There is no matter of judgement on this one. RVN was in front of two players, the goalkeeper and the player off the field. The only "judgement" is if the ref should stop play before that to allow treatment for the downed player (Taken down by his own goalkeeper BTW). Since he did not do that, probably didn't even have time to make that decsion the player is still considered to be active.
