So he was on Extra Time Radio(I did not listen) someone on Twitter did though. He said that Nelly blamed last season on not having a complete roster but he said he is not worried about starting this season with an incomplete roster because he is looking long term.
Another 3 year process in the works then. It looks as if Nelson did not learn from his mistakes last year or more likely, no player with any knowledge of MLS is stupid enough to come to the team where players careers die. Basically the only time a player of any note claims an interest in the Fire it is only to be used as leverage to get a better contract elsewhere.
NRod said, it's his choice not to have a USL team, not because the owner is a cheapass (Sure). Also said that we don't have enough quality player to field a USL team. OK. What's your excuse for not having quality players on our team? I gave up after the one hour mark, this guy fvcking makes me SICK.
Nimrod is an MLS lackey, not a real GM. Near as I can tell, we're secretly in receivership, and MLS is running the club on Andy's behalf while they try to get his asking price for the balance of his stake in the club. Bastian Schweinsteiger is Andy's beard.
Not enough good players? That is an academy issue. His such a bad GM that the kids no to bail before they get stuck with a crappy Fire contract.
Wouldn’t a Sporting Director who specializes in talent acquisition be a key part of a championship caliber organization? Or does that go against the disciplined approach that must be adhered to?
https://www.chicago-fire.com/post/2...eased-fires-early-returns-2019-mls-superdraft “ We also got a player who we believe is ready to contribute to the first team, maybe not as a starter but as an important piece, so overall I think it was a good day for us.” On a team in dire need of starters he makes a guess... “We’re engaged with five or six different players around the world. We would like to have as close to a full roster for the start of our preseason as possible. We’re in a position to have that be true, but you’ve got to get the deals over the line.” 5 or 6? Which is it? Not that we will see them or ever know who they are for that matter...
Looks like NRod got what he wanted (funny money), but since he sucks at his job he only got 150k for two first round picks (5th & 15th picks).
That's the market rate right now. With so many better mechanisms to acquire players nobody in MLS values draft picks like they used to. It's not like the NFL where, aside from the rare free agent, the draft is the only way players enter the league. These bold statements are true.
while this is true, it's not as applicable, IMO, to a squad with this much roster turmoil. If the 5th pick is worth 100K GAM, then whatever you can get for 100K GAM should be roughly equivalent to the 5th pick, except we could have grabbed a free player with that pick, and at a position of need. The GA slot is not nearly as valuable as it was 10 years ago, granted, but for 2019 I guarantee it would be better for THIS team than whatever Nimrod buys with that GAM pocket change.
After N-Rod's post draft presser he said they were trying to move up from #5. He liked somebody enough to invest more than #5, but (as is the usual case) he couldn't get the deal done. The team needs bodies and the draft is a good way to stock the squad. But it's likely chiladd, Jiggs & I scout college players more than N-Rod.
Someone needs to compile a list of all the deals Nelson has mentioned that have fallen through and write a simple article with the list. Paging @Jiggly_333....
The problem is, Nelson doesn't actually mention deals until they fall through. There's probably very few that he mentioned while they were in negotiations because he's an a55hole about that.
Let's just say Nelly signs all 5 or 6 of those international players, that would put the Fire at having 13 or 14 international players on the team. Remember each team only gets 8 international slots unless they trade for more.
Nelson talks deal, just never with whom he is attempting a deal, we can speculate but he never leaves a trail. That way he can always say he is close but NEVER have to provide evidence. Have you forgotten Nelson's encyclopedic knowledge of MLS rules? He specializes in bending. He has to look overseas as a decent percentage our own academy players won't touch the team with a 10 foot pole.
For those talking about six months ... Searches ..etc... Arne is in town , giving speeches on leadership and developing leaders within a team. The man loves this city and regularly mentions that on Twitter. I'm pretty damn sure he would never be a commuter GM.
The point would be to have all of his failures compiled into an easily digestible list for, let’s say, an owner/investor who maybe hasn’t followed every press release over the past four years....
