Bradford seek partner in America Really? I suspect someone hasn't done their homework. I like Nebraska as much as the next person, but this doesn't seem like a natural fit.
Well it makes sense to me. A reliable source tells me that there have been folks looking at starting a USL-1 team that would play at Morrison Stadium at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. http://www.gocreighton.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=1000&ATCLID=1150414 Now the source couldn't say who, but this would make sense wouldn't it?
On May 30, 1854, the Kansas-Nebraska Act created the Kansas Territory and the Nebraska Territory, divided by the Parallel 40° North. The territorial capital of Nebraska was Omaha. In the 1860s, the first great wave of homesteaders poured into Nebraska to claim free land granted by the federal government. Many of the first farm settlers built their homes out of sod because they found so few trees on the grassy land. ________________________________________________ Find a florist in Phoenix cheapest loans casas vilafranca ringtone downloads
He's specifically talking Omaha, not Nebraska in general. A growing city of nearly half a million people with a diverse economy, low unemployment, and one of the most popular college soccer teams (in terms of average attendence) in the country.
Makes sense to me because it's the right size, has a stadium and a possible natural rival in the Des Moines Menace (if they made the move to USL1.)
It might surprise some of you but we have some very strong High School, small college and club teams and when we aren't fighting off cattle rustlers and rogue natives with their bows and arrows we play some pretty good soccer. Why some of us even have indoor plumbing, electricity, and even the 'interweb' so we can go to Big Soccer. With the Creighton facility and fan base as a start there could be good reasons to get a USL1 team in Omaha, profitable operation would be one of them. The DII womens program at UNO (and other schools) and DI ladies at UNL& Creighton might further that base to support a W League team too. At present the nearest professional teams are Des Moines for USL and Kansas City or Denver for MLS. Two shoe salesmen were dropped on an island where the natives didn't wear shoes. One reported back that he might as well return to HQ as there wouldn't be any sales made. The other ordered all the shoes they could send and said the market potential was incredible, everyone needed shoes! We 'need' professional soccer. ;>)
Plus, Nebraskans love them some local teams. People from outside the state often assume that Nebraskans would naturally become fans of the nearest major league teams, like KC, Minneapolis, or Denver. But in general that's not true. It's a college-sports state and people prefer to support a local team over something "bigger" but out of state. Omaha had a long tradition of being a hockey town, but in Lincoln the sport essentially didn't exist...yet once the city got it's own minor-league hockey team (the Stars), consecutive sellouts became the norm.
