That's insane. That's better than several starters in MLS. Is this guy that good? Miami is insane. Jax made out like bandits. $750k for transfer fee???
Richie Ryan and the New NASL Landscape Last week, Jeff Rueter broke the news for Northern Pitch that Jacksonville Armada had sold a 31-year-old holding midfielder to fellow NASL table basement-dwellers Miami FC for $750,000. I was suddenly inundated with messages from players, agents, and other writers. To say they were incredulous would be an understatement. But beyond the particular craziness of an intra-league transfer fee of this size, something else strikes me as interesting about the Richie Ryan story. Over the last couple of years the NASL has found itself increasingly squeezed in the market for good players and so it has turned inward to proven NASL talent. http://northernpitch.com/_/minnesota-soccer-news/richie-ryan-and-the-new-nasl-landscape-r865
Old and busted: "It's inhuman what soccer players make in this country." New hotness: "I'm scared that soccer players are making money in this country."
Freeman’s base salary with the Cosmos ranged from $85-90k, with a total compensation package near $110k. With Miami, Freeman is set to nearly double his salary, with his base payment and additional compensation pushing him near the $180-190k mark. That wage will be honored from the Fall season, forward. To put that salary in perspective, the now 31-year-old Freeman earned $160.8k for Houston in 2011 and $110k for Colorado in 2012, making his move to Miami the largest payout of his domestic career. Freeman will live out the length of his former Cosmos deal, which ran through 2017. However, Miami have added an option for 2018 as well. http://www.empireofsoccer.com/details-behind-hunter-freemans-move-to-miami-fc-53375/
So now it's clear that Miami violated the rules to acquire Freeman. Hope NASL doesn't shrug this off because it's a serious violation.
Miami contacted and negotiated with Freeman without notifying the Cosmos. FIFA rules say you can only do this if the player is in their last 6 months of the contract.
Its been reported that Miami contacted the Cosmos after they where done negotiating and the Cosmos where ok with it.
I am still confused, how much in the hole is Miami FC now with their roster now? I can see them becoming Strikers 2.0 when they realize how much money they will never recover.
Yeah, maybe they should pass some sort of rule limiting teams to spending a certain percentage of what they bring in. But I suppose that would be seen as some socialist American limitation on the free ... What? It's done all over Europe? Even in the Premier League? Oh.
