Depends on the age skew, I guess. Higher percentage of those over 40 than under. As to the general point, I don't really care. Twentysomethings who just got here an hour and a half ago know ********-all about the history of the game anyway, except what they appropriate in faux retro fashion to attempt to microwave their bona fides. In other news, it should come as no surprise that the embezzler running the Hartford group was...embezzling. http://www.fieldofschemes.com/2015/...-to-selves-with-public-money-stiffed-players/
Funny, but perhaps read. It's less about the uncontrollable (their DOB) and more about how their only interest in the history is appropriating it to try and look like they respect it.
That seems like splitting hairs simply to justify crankiness. History, like all causation, is simply the narrative collectively constructed to link together the events of the past. By appropriating it, young people continue the procession of past to present to future and form a solitary whole. Using the past to "microwave bonafides" as you put it necessarily implies that one must value the importance of it. It is not simply the appearance of respect, but rather respect itself. There is no bigger sign of respect for an identity form than to make it part of who "I" am.
Ok... So its not an NASL but at least there is something going on with soccer in connecticut. IT looks like the city of New Britain ponied up some $$ in the form of stadium improvements but didn't give a blank check like the City of Hartford did. It also looks like there are some decent soccer minds behind this team. The demographics (lots and lots of eastern european folk there ) also look like a good fit.... thoughts? http://fox61.com/2016/02/18/new-britain-officially-unveils-new-pro-soccer-team/
how inventive... http://www.courant.com/community/hartford/hc-dillon-stadium-spending-20160222-story.html one of the first upgrades he wanted to make to the city's more modestly priced design. The roof, he said, was not befitting a marquee professional soccer stadium. So he brought in a Florida firm he'd worked with before to create a dramatic covering that would grab the attention of motorists passing on the highway.

A really sad missed opportunity to bring a NASL team to the Northeast. Wish a better group had gotten behind this.
Their first game was a couple of weeks back. I can't necessarily fault them for trying, but overall it had an amateur feel to it. They have already gotten rid of their GM and just starting selling merchandise. I did hear some idle chatter about a NPSL team forming soon. Who knows. At least the women's game at Rentschler was fun
I really feel the Hartford FC / Coltsville Park Cluster F* really set back Soccer fans from believing any of this. The HFC scheme ranks right up there with the Pats coming to Hartford.
I'd see Celtics landing to Hartford building the Harftord Celtics giving more international credibility to Nasl getting lots of audience from irish living there becoming soon a competitor for New England Revolution and reviving an expansion who was dead before being announced
Yeah, that's a great strategy. Really a no-brainer. They should also launch a club in LA in affiliation with a Mexican club. That would draw so well with all of the Mexicans in the area!
