A star player that was instrumental in the Scorpions winning the 2014 Title (and forced the own goal by the Cosmos in the semis) ...
Here's the blog: https://t.co/t3Yzz546ls— Paul Kennedy (@pkedit) February 26, 2019 Brian Helmick's "blogpost", actually a Medium post from July 2017. It went legend for blaming Trump, the incredibly noisy market, and the fans for the team's poor attendance.
Anyone remember NASL Live? The service rarely worked and they had to offer refunds right after the first week.
Or the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers saying everything was fine because Ronaldo was the owner while they moved from Lockhart to the MLS Combine / Cricket Stadium. They had Baghdad Broward Bob basically saying everything was fine while they were stiffing vendors. As they crumbled and stiffed everyone, their supporters blamed MLS and USSF for them not paying vendors and staff, meanwhile never mentioning owner Ronaldo.
The first shoe has fallen on NASL 3.0 before a ball has even been kicked. To clarify a previous tweet: California United Strikers FC has withdrawn from NPSL & Founders Cup. Our Club remains growing and strong! We wish NPSL the best of luck moving forward as we pursue all professional league options for our Club— California United Strikers FC (@CalUtdStrikers) March 2, 2019
I wonder if the NISA getting sanctioned might entice these teams to jump on board and side with them. I'm pessimistic about the NPSL pro plans as it really just seems that the only thing pro about that league is the naming convention. Having the Cosmos and Miami pay players and everyone else still playing mostly amateurs doesn't make you pro, semi-pro but not pro.
NISA only has one declared team west of Atlanta, so unless another west coast team is about to jump ship it makes no sense. My guess is that they are either postponing their launch or looking at, USL-L1 (which would drive the MLS conspirators crazy).
It's probably the NISA getting sanctioned thing, but at this point if USL isn't the first lower division league a team is looking at (not that USL would necessarily want them all), that's borderline malpractice.
Hearing that the #NPSLFoundersCup has a replacement for Cal United. @NapaValley1839 is understood to be the club that will step up giving the Cup two NorCal teams and bringing them back to 5 in the West and 11 overall teams.— Chris Kivlehan (@kivlehan) March 2, 2019 Some will whine about this decision but that’s just sour grapes
Anyone else a bit concerned how quickly this new team stepped up? Would have made more sense to include them from the beginning of the founders cup. This just feels like the NPSL pro people asked around and promised some help (probably financial) and BOOM Napa steps up. Also Napa Valley? Do they really think they'll get people out there? Seems hella rural to me but I'm probably wrong.
These people have already lost. The sad part is, they don’t even know it yet. USL now has a stranglehold on lower division soccer in this country now. It’s not some big conspiracy. They just are the ones with a plan in place to provide competition while allowing its teams the ability to remain financially solvent. Even lower league owners would like to at least break even in their investments, maybe even more so than the billionaire MLS owners who have the money to absorb losses.
Miami and Cosmos are bankrolling the Founders Cup.. They straight up said that was their plan when USSF yanked NASL’s sanctioning.
That explains it then, also there's apparently a rumor going around that NOLA is going to join the NISA and leave the founders cup which would be something because I believe the NOLA owner is head of the NPSL now. I'd laugh if it wasn't so damn sad.
I hear there's a good chance they will expand with teams in Guam, Hawaii, Tijuana, Puerto Rico and the Bahamas... Sounds like great idea to me.
So I guess the big question is what happens to the NPSL if/when the Founders Cup gives up the ghost. It would be awful, although not totally surprising, if the Cosmos managed to kill a third league.
