Which player that plays or formerly played for your NT, will you always loathe or despise for what he failed to bring to the table at some point when you needed him most. Or he made a BIG mistake that costed you and you`ve never been able to get out of your system. As a Brazil supporter, I have to nominate Serginho Chulapa for his wretched finishing ability in that fateful match vs. Italy in 1982. I`ll never forgive this guy for the chances he blundered on that hot July day.
For Mexico: Luis Roberto Alves "Zaguinho" or Luis Miguel Salvador (also called Luis Miguel Fallador for the amount of chances he missed)... good Lord, it was horrible to watch them play and wonder when, if ever, would they score, and why would the coach still keep them there....
Yes Cerezo, but more often than not Brazil hasn`t been about great defenders, so to a degree his kind of play has to be expected. He did make a awful turnover in the 2nd Rossi goal. I just recall Serginho being sent in clear one on one with Zoff, and unable to even get a shot off, unthinkable for a starting centre-forward of the Selecao. I think 1982 was the only WC I can remember where Brazil entered without a top tier centre forward. Muller would`ve been easily displaced had Romario been fit in 1990. Against Argentina, I think Brazil was unlucky to hit the post a couple times.
I have three for Italy. Had we not relied on Del Piero, Totti and Vieri so much in our last few big tourneys, I'm sure would have lifted at least one major cup.
well, i dont know about ever but juan pablo angel (aston villa) is the current villian as of now (no pun intended ) back in 94 it was probably higuita
Excluding Tim Buzaglo (google, result five) noone has made me so miserable football wise as Southgate and his miss. At least he was Villa.
Del Piero ok, no argument with him, but Vieri was a bit past his expiry date at EURO 04. Vieri prior to EURO 04 had always brought the goods to the table in tournaments. At least his moments came at the past 2 WC`s.
Can it be a coach? Right now for the US my biggest villain is Steve Sampson, coach of the US team at WC98. He absolutely destroyed the team. It's pretty hard coming up with a player US fans think is a villain. Many people don't like the way Frankie Hejduk plays, but he's by no means a villain. David Regis? A Frenchman dressed in US clothing just so he could be on a WC roster is mine. We've had other foreign born players (Thomas Dooley, etc.), but there was something not right with Regis. He wasn't remotely American in my eyes. He's French, period.
you're right about vieri in the other wc where he was productive. however, i was making reference to euro 04 and wc 02.
England - David Beckham's red card against the Argy's Italy - Totti's suspension for spitting at Euro2004 Portugal - Joao Pinto's red card against South Korea - World Cup 02
Higuita had alot of personal problems prior to the 94 world cup (some of which was never his fault) in case anybody wondered we hate Angel cause he never does anything with the national team also lets not forget el Tino Asprilla in the 98 world cup what about the Dutch? Gullit and Van Basten not playing in 94, im sure that pissed off alot of people.
