Any Indian classical music fans out there? Recently picked up Vilayat Khan's "Bhairavi" on India Archive Music. It is very much awesome...just alap and jor, no tabla. Thinking about picking up the new Kala Ramnath and the new Purabayan Chatterjee.
How about providing us with a fan starter kit? What are 3 Indian classical music albums that you think are essential? ICP sucks.
I will gladly provide you with a starter kit: 1) Ali Akbar Khan - Signature Series vol. 2 2) Nikhil Banerjee - Live Berkeley 1967 My last suggestion is a fusion of Indian and Persian music...this is often a good intro for people unfamiliar with the instruments because it is more modern sounding: 3) Ghazal - As Night Falls on the Silk Road By the way, what is ICP?
ICP - Insane Clown Posse. Yes, they do suck. I like some Inidian music - didn't get into it too much other than a few releases on comps, etc. To be honest, I hardly knows what would really qualify? SOme of the comps I have are Karma Collection, tons of chillout/lounge stuff and Thievery Corporation releases (who are, by the way, releaseing their newest album on October 1st titled The Richest Man In Babylon). I guess the newer stuff is what I like. Ever hera "Cleopatra in New York" on Hotel Costes Estage Trois?
Thanks. I'm sure these will be available somehow in Ann Arbor. Alex_1 is right ICP=Insane Clown Posse (they're a Detroit based rage rock band trying to out-limp Limp Bizkit) Why did I stick that on there? Just being a copycat, I guess.
Not classical but I like Talvin Singh, he fuses techno (or whatever they call it this week) with classical Indian instruments. And ICP isn't Indian, but John Cougar Mellencamo is...
Talvin Singh is quite cool, if you like his stuff you might want to check out Tabla Beat Science. That is a group with Talvin Singh and Zakir Hussain, it is a bunch of techno with tabla stuff. Very cool. Other suggestions for modern Indian stuff would be Asian Dub Foundation and Ananda Shankar. I forgot to mention that all the stuff I put up earlier (the post with the pictures) is classical.
