RSL opens the first of eight satellite training facilities for youth, a $6 million complex in North Logan (80 miles north of Salt Lake). Six of these will go up in Utah and two more in Arizona over the next 4-5 years, in addition to the big facility in Herriman. It's a pretty comprehensive system. Impressive as hell.
For an owner who is not regarded as one of the richest in MLS, Hansen sure is putting in substantial investments into youth development. I hope the investment pays off big time, at least partially because it would be a concept that is copied. Similarly, I hope Dallas has a highly successful season next year by playing a team composed primarily of homegrowns, especially young ones. It seems like MLS youth development has plateaued a bit, and these are the types of things that can get things moving upward again.
