Got this offer sent to my email for Saturday's game. Not a bad deal. 4 tickets, 4 nachos, 4 popcorn = $40 https://ticketing.axs.com/PickASection.aspx?t=3BE68B9C8D48D72A23F5D10&og=-1&utm_source=042617 General Public&utm_medium=LINK "Monarchs 4 for 40"&utm_campaign=General Public Email
It's almost a good deal. Swap out either the popcorn or the nachos and put hot dogs in there, and then it's something a family can look at differently (game and dinner and a snack).
The Monarchs look good in this week's USL Power Rankings There's also a link to the highlights of the game vs Sacramento.
user @pate keeping us up-to-date regarding the Monarchs. Its appreciated. I need to ask...did you grow up in Stansbury Park?
I think that's the plan, but I know there were concerns about just how big they would be allowed to build the stadium. If you thought getting to the RioT was hard, until they make Mountain View an actual highway that would be a nightmare to get to if you didn't live in Herriman. Hell, I live in South Jordan and driving to Herriman is just as painful (if not worse) as getting to my office downtown.
I think the stadium is supposed to seat 5,000, which is the D2 standard. IDK but I've thought that putting the Monarchs in Provo or Ogden makes more sense.
in an ideal world, sure. But building this massive setup for the club (it's not just for the academy, that point gets overlooked too much, IMO) and then not using it would seem weird and not cost efficient. I liked the idea of the "Monarchs on tour" series they did last year. Have them play "home" games at the U, the Y, and other locations. Heck, they should add in "home" games at USU, UVU, SUU, etc. to build the brand with that college age kid and get exposure across the state to what the club can offer.
That's not happening, everything I've seen and read said they're building a 5k seat stadium for the Monarchs and that will be their base of operations from now on.
Given that the Monarchs are currently kickin' ass and takin' names in the USL, a tour of Utah would be great for the brand.
If they were in Ogden, I'd probably grab season tickets. As it stands currently, I have a hard time justifying the games given their schedule. They are fun to watch at least.
So, what's the reason for the Monarchs' success this season? Are there lessons learned, coaches, players, etc. from the team that could be used at the sr. team level?
coming into the season in shape seems to have helped a bit they also want to play soccer instead of just launching the ball up the pitch and from the wings. I haven't watched a whole lot, but every time I do I'm impressed with their speed of play and desire to keep possession.
I think the skill level of the average player on the roster is far better this season. They swapped much of the roster. They also upgraded the average size of players, bringing in some taller and heavier players like Besler and Hoffman. That combined with better offseason prep and a some tactics and they're much more effective on the offensive side of things.
Looks like another beat-down by the Monarchs, this time over the CO Switchbacks. Match Recap (And probably the most entertaining side to watch in SLC regardless of league.)
They did concede first while being at home, but we'll forgive them since they were forced to field an RSL first team defender.
Can we pin this thread? It's a lot more fun that talking about RSL . . . New USL Standings and weekly review are out. (from SBI) USLSoccer also posted the match review. or you can watch it:
