Side note, St Louis FC is not an expansion club, contrary to this report.

Listening to the stream, Omar Holness had some kind of minor collision with a STL player and then moments later collapsed, ambulance and paramedics came out, not clear what happened. Taking him to the hospital right now.

That looked pretty serious for Holness. Very serious. I thought they were going to have to do CPR.

The just said they think he had some sort of seizure.

Stream is here, Omar goes down around the 36':

Players reacted immediately, STL players and RSL players even ran off the field and helped pull the gurney on, paramedics start treating immediately. Holness' arm was straight out stiff in the air which makes me think seizure or something neurological.

Sandoval misses the single easiest free header I've ever seen, can't even get the ********ing thing on goal. Unreal.

He was pretty close to goal, he directed a lot of power and missed, but then he came up with an amazing assist that Orellana crushes.

That'd be a helluva goal at the MLS level. Wow, nice work.

Glad I tuned in for the final 20 minutes. Nice stream.

Sandoval does better redirecting that ball with his head, under pressure, that sets up the goal than his free header, lol.

Yes. Great goal. Long throw in, great vision and set up by Dev and a Orellana with a rocket that almost blew out the back of the net.

    Nicely done.

Sounder fan here I'm glad that the player is alert and responsive. I hope they figure out why that happened and hope for a full recovery.

The Blitzz had a player go down in the middle of a game. I have pictures. It may have been from drinking too much of the sponsors fluid. Not Bud but RED BULL, dangerous stuff!

Went down from a seizure?? I don't remember much of the Blitzz era other than watching games at Cottonwood High School.

The sad thing is we won't even attempt those throw ins.

Holness was released sometime around midnight, so at least it looks to not be that serious.

I seizure like this, especially if he has no known history of them, is very serious. Figuring out what caused it is important to help prevent it, if he can, in the future. Plenty of people have died from seizures or their underlying causes.

Fair point. I just figured they must not think it was that bad if they let him go. You'd think they would've wanted to at least keep him overnight just to be sure. At the very least I hope it was just a fluke one off thing and not something that winds up being serious.

    Whoops, noticed I typed "I seizure"....meant "A seizure", I don't have seizures.

The tricky thing with seizures is that until you have them frequently enough or you are having one in a hospital it's really really hard to figure out what's causing them. They probably released him because he stabilized and at that point there's really nothing more than can do besides monitor vital signs and bloodwork, if his neurological responses are good and things aren't triggering another seizure then there is no point in keeping him at the hospital.

But finding out what caused the seizure is really important, he's actually lucky it happened during a game, he got help IMMEDIATELY by paramedics and trainers and was taken to the hospital pretty much as fast as you could possibly get taken to one. Imagine if this happened while he was at home or even scarier while driving or something like that, no immediate medical help or you could put yourself and others in a dire life threatening situation.
