Yeah, man! Good that we turned away decent coaches because we wanted to have a thrift store soccer team. Good thing our results proved all the doubters wrong...oh, wait.

Yep - you get what you pay (or don't pay) for.

The idea that Porter would have had a better record than Olsen with the same talent isn't very realistic.

I'm not so sure about that. Olsen had zero coaching experience when he was appointed Asst. Coach and, very soon afterward, head coach. He said he wasn't ready. The GM said he wasn't ready. And he wasn't, IMO. Porter was an established coach. Sure, it was college, but he had experience in selecting players, teaching a system, adjusting tactics on the fly, and so on. IMO it's not a given that he wouldn't have bettered Olsen's record.

Rumored to be going to either Cincinnati or Sacramento, where he can be in charge of the whole tamale, coaching, player acquisition, etc.

If true seems like a downgrade.

Also even if any of these clubs had a chance to move to MLS, it would be until 2020 right?

    Cincinnati is close to home

Following the WC elimination, it seems like that - under huge pressure especially from the media - everybody at Federcalcio is abandoning the sinking ship and tomorrow the president Tavecchio will FINALLY resign. A week too late.

Why only a week late. Seems like huge systemic problems in development of Italian soccer players. Perhaps resigning 2 years ago would have better. Although much of blame should also be on the clubs and their lack of academies.

That's grossly unfair to thrift stores

Considering all the big mistakes Olsen made in selection and timing of substitutes failing to try to match up players with the opponents, I'd say a seasoned coach could have won more than a few more games and tied a few that they lost in the flagging minutes. Ben was to blame as much if not more than his squad for the poor record

For purposes of pedantry, I'd like to point out that in competitive matches (concacaf, open cup, and MLS), Olsen's overall win percentage is ~35.8%, with 110 wins out of 307 games. Both Soehn and Onawful have better win percentages with United.

Well, after watching the Deadskins shit away a 15 point lead with 3 minutes left in the game. All is right in Washington — our teams just suck. Give any of them a big time game and they shit they bed.

I guess just quitting isn't dramatic enough, maybe he should take poison, and shoot himself while taking a header off the bell tower in Florence with a noose around his neck. Perhaps not a sure enough thing for some but it has that certain flair fitting the national temperament.
Here in the USA we can only hope Sunil will run downstairs to answer the door with scissors in his hands and an untied shoelace

LOL - in Italy soccer is not a sport, it's a social issue, if something is wrong with the national team, TV's and newspapers will crucify you - and they are damn good at it - even some politicians will step in and display their opinion, right now only the Pope hasn't said anything (yet).

Am I the only one thinking that Seattle is going to win it all over again? They are really ugly to watch, but terribly effective...

It's been so long since the first round of playoffs, those games were so far below the radar I forgot all about them despite the reminder at the conclusion of the RMA Apoel "match".
I guess this is the MLS equivalent of timing game 3 of the 1960 Baseball World Series be played last night. The MLS playoffs have all the momentum of an I-70 highway repair crew that is to say none what so ever.
If there was any interest it died of boredom
