Originally Minnesota United had discussed Rochester, Minn. as a location for their USL reserve affiliate. Then there was some focus on having a team in Wisconsin. A source told FiftyFive. One that talk had shifted once again to Rochester as a destination where the team would play games. The stadium was the home of the Minnesota Thunder PDL team for the two years of their existence. See more at: http://fiftyfive.one/2017/01/develo...pe-for-minnesota-united/#sthash.DuRViEQz.dpuf
Rochester Community and Technical College (RCTC) has facilities that could serve the reserve team well. Currently, the stadium seats 5,000 fans, just 500 under the USSF D2 standards. This would be required due to USL getting sanctioned to participate as a D2 league.
I'm not sure. It's odd that, in Year 2 of their MLS existence, they still haven't ironed out a reserve squad or at least an affiliation club in USL.
Several months ago, I asked Jeff Rueter about this, and he said that there were no current plans as of yet for the up and coming season. Have not heard/seen anything info that has changed that status......though I would like to think the club is closer to getting this done.
http://www.mplscitysc.com/blog/u23s Minneapolis — Minneapolis City SC is proud to announce the formation of the Minneapolis City U23 team, which will start play in the summer of 2018. The U23 players will take all trainings in conjunction with the full team, with the idea that standouts will be able to win their spot on the NPSL roster. Matt VanBenschoten, who has deep coaching experience, including as an assistant coach at Bethel University with Jeremy Iwaszkowiec, will take the reins as coach for the team. Minneapolis City U23s will play an independent schedule of games, which an official schedule to be announced in the spring.
#MLS sources telling me #MNUFC is close to finalizing a relationship with #USL side Saint Louis FC. Finer details being hashed out, but this will be the preferred loan destination for the Loons.— Jeff Rueter (@jeffrueter) February 6, 2018 Not sure if this will be an official affiliation or just a working relationship. pic.twitter.com/rs3oZRBjal— St.Louligans ☠️ (@StLouligans) February 6, 2018 Yeah, that's a matter of semantics regarding player-rights. May be too late to make it an official affiliation, but I believe that's the intention on both ends.— Jeff Rueter (@jeffrueter) February 6, 2018
