Seeing Zoltan Steiber as the highest paid player on DC United and not Paul Arriola is a bit weird to me.

I love that we all get to know how bad teams are at ascertaining a player's value.

The fact that Jay Simpson "earns" $623,000 makes my heart sing.

I mean...we can put the entire Union roster making more then $120K in that context at this point.

Well at least there is a chance to be good if they can get their money in the right place.

You can thank all the funny money and help from the league for that, this has NOTHING to do with our owner.

Some Notes: $500K was a round number near the DP threshold. Taking the amount above the threshold and adding $500K for each DP gave a rough estimate of the true cap (funny money wasn't as transparent in past)

Majority of starters are now what once were qualified as DPs.

Despite effectively turning about 100 the highest non-DP level players into the original definition of a DP, the amount available to pay for non-DP level players his increased by about $10MM since the last year of prior CBA. Interesting that many people believed the players made a huge mistake by focusing on prying open free agency rather than increasing the "cap." that needed significant increasing anyway if the owners wanted to grow the league.

Off topic but what do you guys think of the new players union logo? I like it, has a Swedish second division vibe to it.

The players union releases the numbers. I can't recall MLS ever acknowledging that they do.

I was curious if these numbers mean anything once you adjusted for inflation, so I whipped out the CPI inflation calculator...

    Year Payroll/Team Payroll/Team (in 2018 $)

    2007
    $3,247,974 $3,937,213.42

    2008
    $3,151,974 $3,676,116.98

    2009
    $3,458,537 $4,063,602.57

    2010
    $4,456,561 $5,121,685.49

    2011
    $4,726,638 $5,265,489.78

    2012
    $5,224,099 $5,688,667.70

    2013
    $5,004,113 $5,391,799.35

    2014
    $6,402,544 $6,766,432.94

    2015
    $7,957,697 $8,426,786.05

    2016
    $9,045,270$9,471,899.80

    2017
    $9,769,119$10,009,707.39

    2018
    $10,858,892$10,858,892

I'm not sure you draw any different conclusions from it, but it answers the question I had.

I love me some CPI Inflation Calculator. For example, $1.00 in 1913 buys you $25.31 worth of product today. I mean, you can get a 12" x 48" or a "24 x 24" Hot Rolled Mild Steel Sheet for $25.31 from onlinemetals.com!

    Hot Rolled Mild Steel Sheet
    Part #: 23567

Hot Rolled Mild Steel Tread Floor Plate (0.075") has a 4-way raised lug pattern or diamond pattern on one side, providing skid resistance and all around traction, with an easy to clean surface. This is a commercial quality general purpose low-carbon steel that can be easily fabricated and is suitable for applications where bending, moderate forming and welding are involved.

      12 inches x 24 inches - $15.75
      12 inches x 36 inches - $20.25

      12 inches x 48 inches - $25.31
      24 inches x 24 inches - $25.31

      24 inches x 36 inches - $37.13
      24 inches x 48 inches - $48.38
      36 inches x 36 inches - $54.42
      36 inches x 48 inches - $69.19

So why did I pick 1913 and what's so special about that year? That's as far a you can go back using the U.S. government's inflation calculator. It's also, as we all know, the first year the U.S. Open Cup was held. Coincidence? I don't think so...

Let's dig in. The first known use of the term cosmos in English was in 1596, which is also the year David Fabricius discovered the star Mira ,which means "sight" in Spanish. 1596 is also the year that the second Spanish Armada was lost in a storm, disappearing out of "sight."

There is also a team known as the NY Cosmos, who play in the U.S. Open Cup, whose owner has been lamenting he can't get enough fans "see" his team play on TV do to the pernicious perfidy of the United States Soccer Federation.

What do all these things have in common? Obviously they all relate back to the core concept of "sight." While we've demonstrated the relationship between the U.S. Open cup and "sight," what does "sight" have to do with the CPI Inflation Calculator? Answer:

Oh my. Who else references the "all seeing eye"? This group:

And what do the Illuminati despise? The idea that any person should be able to rise, or be promoted to positions of power and influence, and stay there, outside of their purview. Who do we know in the soccer "cosmos" that seeks to deny clubs the opportunity to be promoted to more powerful and influential leagues outside their purview? Why the aforementioned United States Soccer Federation of course.

Putting 2 and 2 together, we can see that far from whining, filing "frivolous" lawsuits, and engaging in self-serving, and self-aggrandizing, behavior in an attempt to profit from United States soccer's media rights gravy train, Rocco Commisso is actually engaging in an epic battle on behalf of all us against the foul earthly representatives of Lucifer himself! Given that Rocco willingly placed himself in a position where he was "aribus teneo lupum" so to speak, I have no problem with a little "qui tam pro domino rege quam pro se ipso in hac parte sequit" on his behalf. I'm sure you would all agree.

This, of course, begs the question of why doesn't he just come out and admit this is his true agenda, instead of allowing himself to be seen as a foolish, selfish, and entitled brat? Well, let me ask you this simple question: How many people do you know that have engaged in open warfare with the Illuminati and lived to tell about it? I thought so.

1913: Those who know, know. And now you may add yourself to the ranks of those who know.
