Tommy Thompson has been aces...…...as he loses Antuna and is bailed out by a teammate. Anyway like I was saying, TT has made his case for a call up. Cannon is all defense and Lima is all offense; TT is a bridge between the two. He is the answer.
This SJ Earthquake's play style is so sexy, oh my god. Good coach can change a lot. Yueilll and Lima are in such a good environment.
how could you not be thinking about picking up the white courtesy phone for the San Jose coach for the national team spot, the turn around has been unbelievable
wow quincy amrikwa hits some golazos! i think he would be a better target back to goal striker for the USMNT than Zardes is fwiw
when Jozy came into MLS as a teen he was SKINNY FAST and LETHAL he did his damage FACING GOAL. he was shifty. he dribbled. he was dynamic. putrid american and english coaches turned this amazing striker into a HULKING beast of burden. the USMNT thinks they can only play with a target forward by long balls and then gradually inching up the field.....so they turned him into something he NEVER WAS MEANT TO BE! I don't want the USMNT to play with a target forward in the first place!
not in GB system...he uses a holdup target forward vs any decent team... a role in which zardes struggles mightily. in the specific role of holdup target forward.....hoofing longballs up to a forward and hoping for knockdowns and distribution...i think amarikwa is a better option than zardes.... stats don't translate perfectly, imo.
1) Bradley made the team of the tournament so not the best measure. 2) what statistics? 3) he was definitely the fastest of the group. 4) his passing was not generally superior. He looks uncomfortable on the ball and had more back passes and turnovers than Miazga against Mexico 5) he could have pressured the ball better on the goal against Mexico and made the same mistake against Mexico that Miazga made against Jamaica, butntheybdidnt convert (see below) I think that Miazga were the top two from the GC and would include Brooks if healthy. I think the competition is the three of them for the two spots. I think it is about finding the combination that works best... I think all three combos should be tried. pic.twitter.com/WK5n95hBba— _ (@21LBRB) July 8, 2019
Bradley had an excellent tournament, overall. I'm not suggesting he continue with the team, though. The goal was on McKennie. Gotta hustle.
Bradley was mixed throughout the tournament. He got beat and turned the ball over way too much. He was probably our biggest problem against Mexico. I'd put losing your man in the and not pressuring the ball in the defensive third a much more egregious offense than not tracking a guy from midfield. If mckennie played in MLS, he would be blameless on that play. It is kind of weird that people expect more defense from an 8/10 than our #6.
Bradley was excellent in most of the matches. He was good for the award. His performances against the only two decent opponents faced, however, means he was poor for US purposes. McKennie left his position, failed to win the ball, didn't get back into position, and didn't track the runner.
Minnesota 1-0 Dallas Four American fullbacks started. Minn's were excellent. The physicality and soccer athleticism pass the eye test. Both have good ball skills. Gasper had a little flair in his moves. He pulled some nice stuff deep in his end. Hollingshead's passing has noticeably improved. Cannon was much better with the National Team than he has been with this season's Dallas. Maybe he needs a new challenge. Another goal for Toye! Nice poacher's goal. Stayed alert. Stayed onside. Beat Cannon to the rebound. Showed nice balance to get round the ball; many others would have blown that shot. Pomykal was a bit subdued. Alonso and Gregus weren't playing that. But he did do a nice job of dropping deep to provide an outlet and to provide quality medium and long range passing. Show an eye-popping turn of pace to win a foul at the box. Didn't get brutalized for a change, though I suppose if FCD had tried to run it up the middle more things would've ended differently for Paxton. Opara was majestic as usual.

Not tracking that run from midfield is what gave the open shot for goal. Bradley left his man behind him 5 yards, allowing him to recieve easily. Bradley recovered well. If it were Bradley who'd have been the one who jogged back instead of sprinting to cover his man then there would be several people shouting that Bradley sucks and would have placed all of the blame squarely on him. McKennie missed it. He's got a great future, and Bradley certainly doesn't, but McKennie lost his mark, and his mark scored the winner.
what about the CBs? aren't they supposed to step up when runners are free directly in front of them in th box???
