Needs to be repeated, I guess tommy to right back and Lima to left back is Facebook official. Not what I think is htommys best position but hey he’s on the field and he’s done well early the game
Keep CJ Sapong in your thoughts, and the two defenders he schooled here for the assist. A late run and a strong finish 💪 @Rvheem_ pulls one back.#CHIvSEA #cf97 pic.twitter.com/yqln1tUekl— Chicago Fire FC (@ChicagoFire) March 16, 2019 Strong start for him in a new environment. Sucks how he missed having a significant national team career thanks to background prejudice. Think he could have helped the US avoid being dq'ed in Couva. Same goes for Jordan Morris, even though there were illusions of him on the field because he's the scapegoat by blind fans.
Nick Lima once again got subbed out early today....I don't think he's finished a game all season. He just stopped marking Muyl on NYRBs first goal and left him wide open to score.
CJ was excellent in his last call up. Pity the physical beating his play at center forward drew resulted in a stuttering season with Philly. Monster stat line from Duncan: 3 dribbles, 4 fouled, 7 ints for a WS_8.0
Saw Pomykal and Mihalovic today. Pretty exciting we have 2 young, good attacking mids starting every week in MLS. Felt like Djordje was the better player (obviously a couple years older). Perhaps if FCD has more of the ball Pomykal would have shown more but he a few good moments. Mihailovic can get a Euro passport right? Dad is European IIRC
I only watched the 1st half, but he got torched by Espinosa 3 times, including for a goal. He was able to beat Espinosa to a ball late in the half and the RBNY fans gave him an ironic cheer. Ouch.
The Espinosa goal looks to have been a failed offsides trap and mediocre goalkeeping. Nothing really on Duncan.
What's interesting here is Serbia is not an EU member state nor an EEA member state. Neither is Macedonia where his mother is from. A Euro passport doesn't guarantee freedom of movement/employment. An EU and/or EEA passport does.
Ment to catch some snippets of the Crew v FCD match and ended up watching the entire contest. Porter has Columbus playing a very aggressive, modern, in-your-face 4-2-3-1 which looks like it could be lethal in MLS this season. No more Trapp dropping back 15 meters from the action. Everyone gets involved and dirty with lots of aggressive pressing and challenges. It's the Akron and early Timbers scheme with better wing play and exciting to watch. The Crew will be better than they were the last couple of years with the increase in energy, grit, and aggression!
It's certainly not all on him. But he gets off-balance and blown by. If the off-balanceness was an attempt to pull Espinosa offside, he better tell Long and Parker about it.
Duncan didn't get blown by. It was simply a failed offsides trap, as NYRB did not place enough pressure on the passer. The GK could have done a lot better.
Lima is not a good 1v1 defender and I shudder to think of him isolated against even a first choice Mexico, CR, or Honduras winger. That ball watching defense you pointed out was criminal!
Lletget was fantastic today. Orchestrating play and got the game winning goal today (a golazo) when he's healthy he's one of the best players in the pool. period.
I said it about Lima many times last year, and I will say it again ... Nick Lima is a poor defender. Period. People have become enthralled with him because he looks good going forward. That is wonderful against teams that pose no real attacking threat. But for goodness' sake, he is playing right back ... doesn't work so well when he needs to do SOME defending.
What is their to support the claims Lima has been a bad defender these past two season. Site something. Stats. Coach's opinion. Analyst's opinion.
Try looking at RBulls first goal tonite. Lima just let his mark walk calmly into the middle of the box 6 ft from goal and score off a cross. It's ironic because the guy Almeyda subbed in for Lima, who is a Peruvian ostensibly handpicked by Almeyda as the only transfer in during his tenure so far, gave up the next 3 goals. TT keeps getting better and keeps slipping into bad habits here and there. I guess he just has to keep on keepin' on. Wondo is done.
Lima's stock is certainly down, the left back thing is pretty much the obvious culprit. Its not working out for him. He's a right back. Period.
Lima pulled out at the 62-minute mark. What’s next for the 24-year-old? Traveling to Florida to meet up with the #USMNT. Maybe not his best shift today, but this “experiment” is plaguing Lima’s form and devaluing #Quakes74 most expensive asset.— Joel Soria (@soriajoelfutbol) March 16, 2019 Can count on one hand the number of times Ozzie Alonso's been just completely skinned like this over the past decade. A healthy Sebastian Lletget is a wonderful thing. pic.twitter.com/06TJUtzY72— Matthew Doyle (@MattDoyle76) March 17, 2019
