That’s just not Delgado’s game unfortunately he’s a pass first kind of guy. Lucky for him, he’s really good at it. Vanney took him off because of some sort injury hopefully he’s ok for the 2nd leg. Altidore and Osorio weren’t money today in there final ball
Well you can prefer it. However the modern game at the higher levels sees players like Delgado regularly swing wide and they need to attack 1v1 on the dribble. Or they get replaced. Delgado got played into space wide right today and didn't attack. That's a problem when forecasting him to higher levels. You have to get by your mark and whip in crosses. Or penetrate centrally and play it on the floor. When you're an AM/winger, a 1v1 situation should always be to your advantage.
Bradley looked corpulent and slow. I am a bradley fan but while he had some positioning plays he looked like he was running in slow mo. Has he lost a step in the past 9 months?
yes, early on Delgado was 5 yds away and passed to him and MB couldn't gather the pass in and instead the ball almost went for a goal the other way. Time for Delgado to move on.
I disagree. I'm looking at 36' onwards just now and Delgado's teamwork leads to a great situation instead of a naïve 1v1 and loss of possession. Unfortunatley the ball ends up at the feet of Mavinga and is lost but I prefer the improvement of his position thru passing over the naïve 1v1 challenge which leads to nothing.
Why would you play Moor against Colorado on Saturday then put him in against Chivas for 90 on Tuesday? What was the point? Moor kept giving the ball away all night. So naïve.
How about 40'55"? Delgado doesn't try to bull his way thru the china shop. Makes the square pass to Gio instead, who dummies to Jozy then receives the return pass for the attempt on goal. I'm lovin' it. Last thing I want to see is Delgado taking his man on 1v1 at which point everybody adjusts the defense and the initiative is lost. I guess we just have different futbol philosophies.
Which makes him very predictable. In opposing coach who does any scouting at all, just has his players drop off him. The answer then is nobody is open and he is ineffective. I love the kids passing, but when you can only do one thing, it is very easy to defend. This looks like it has the typical path of an MLS career. Kid shows promise when under the radar, but won’t be able to make the next step. I hope I’m wrong for the sake of the team, but am interested to see your comments over the years if he follows his most likely path.
If you are an attacker and you can't beat your mark off the dribble then you are "as useful as tits on a bull". Against Chivas' low-block man marking scheme, TFC needed their players to win 1 v 1 duels. Chivas employs a man-marking approach to defending whereby opponents are chased all over the field, and both Bradley and coach Greg Vanney bemoaned Toronto's inability to take better advantage of the moments when one of their attackers got some separation from his opposite number. http://www.espn.com/soccer/concacaf...thless-streak-to-overcome-chivas-in-ccl-final
My philosophy is one should pass when it's warranted and attack 1v1 when it's warranted. That Delgado found himself in a situation where a square pass was the right option has nada to do with not attacking on the dribble in other situations. His passing/vision centrally is quite good. But when he swings wide the boy needs to learn to attack the endline and get in crosses or beat his man and create chances. That is simply what is asked and demanded at the high levels.

Rowe and Nguyen didn't even make NE's gameday roster. Damn. Tommy Thompson didn't make San Jose's gameday roster. CRoldan was moved to amid for much of the 2nd half. His collective WS at a-mid is 7.5 over 433 minutes. Union: if they're not going to add talent perhaps a change of formation is in order Durkin came off the bench to make 8 clearances in 10-man DC's 1-0 victory over Columbus. Agudelo came off the bench to get 4 dribbles. Each time he and other newly benched players have been subbed in, the game turned towards the Revs favor. Castillo continues to excel at left wingback. Sean Davis looks to have settled in as a pivotal deep-mid after last year's false start. Nick DeLeon at right back: is anyone feeling this? The sidelining of Feilhaber and Kljestan during the prime of their careers puzzles.
Friedel and Nguyen have been criticizing each other in the media. Really strange situation. They should just trade Nguyen.
Is too soon to be having the Hayes and Cannon discussions? Personally I'd wait a bit longer. Also very interested to see if Hayes and Acosta are paired and how they both look together.
Coming around to Hayes. Really clean on the ball and good in tight space. Thread courtesy of @zlebmada Jacori Hayes, 22, only made 3 appearances last season for FC Dallas, totaling 90 minutes. New era for him. With Acosta injured, he’s started every game this season at CM, and he's seized the chance. Got GIFs from his MOTM performance Saturday against New England. pic.twitter.com/nsegqYTsFi— scuffed (@scuffedpod) April 17, 2018
Given the longer maturation times for defenders, it's probably a little too soon for serious Cannon to NT discussion. On the other hand, Hayes looks the business. Gifs don't really capture what he does. Dude gets on the ball. and makes positive plays, time after time. Plays both sides of the ball quite well.

Has anyone watched much of Mueller? Is he just another Zusi (a player who can compile MLS stats but can't create at the international level) or is he an attacker who can beat high level defenders consistently to influence goals?
Zusi had two assists at the 2014 World Cup. Mueller looks to be a better athlete, with a more direct game from the flanks.
He averaged over a goal contribution per game in his last two years at Wisconsin, which is really good, but it's tough to judge with a player like him until they're thrown into the fire. The fact that hes playing this often, this well, and this soon says a lot of good things though.
