Somewhere in Foxboro, Massachusetts, Jonathan Kraft just gave himself a face palm and yelled, "Dad! We should've tried this before hiring Coach Arena!"
Per source, Loudon United head coach Richie Williams is officially headed to the #NERevs to be an assistant under Bruce Arena. The USL side is being told today. Move is official. Originally reported by Paul Tenorio.— Kristian Dyer (@KristianRDyer) May 24, 2019 Assistant coach responsible for the US U-17s failing to qualify for the World Cup for the first time in like a dozen cycles joins coach (mostly) responsible for the USMNT failing to qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 1986. Thomas Rongen (U-20s failing for first time in like a dozen cycles) next?
I believed it when it was Loudoun United, but now it might just be a trick since United's next game is against the Revs.
Report: Williams to reunite with Arena at Revs Larry Sunderland hired to build out FCC academy Armas right that RBNY needs more respect?
Lots of great assistants aren't great head coaches. Williams has a good track record as an MLS assistant. This doesn't guarantee he'll be quality again, but he's a perfect guy for Arena.
That was some bad soccer from Columbus last night. I know the Crew FO had quite a mess to clean up but I am curious to see how quickly they can turn over a roster that has basically been neglected.
The Steffen $$ should help. I was confused about the Zardes DP contract extension but I wouldnt say hes been the problem...basically IMO their offensive strategy revolved around their fullbacks creating overloads and have had to play without DP Valenzuela (arguably best LB in the league) and Afful (arguably best offensive RB in the league). Biggest priorities have to be replacing Steffen, finding heir to Higuain, getting an Accam replacement/upgrade and hoping the fullbacks can recover from injury. Their CB and CM depth is relatively solid and Zardes can lead the line for MLS in an effective system (as GGG proved last year).
No disagreements with your post. If you Twitter, follow Dr. Pete Edwards, team doctor turned owner. He has some interesting tweets, talking about coming out of the fire with three dragons, making a splash, things like that. I have never seen that from an owner.
Yeah, the Crew have a lot of questions right now. Porter is safe for at least this whole seaon plus the first half of next year. But he seems to be doing worse with basically the same players. When Steffen leaves, it looks like Kempin will take over. Bendik was a disaster. We should try to find Higuain's replacement this year instead of waiting. Zardes has fallen off his scoring pace from last year and we don't seem to have anyone else who can reliably put away good chances.
Crew’s Porter: “I apologize ... I take the blame" Dick Schreuder to join 1899 Hoffenheim coaching staff German Bundesliga club 1899 Hoffenheim announced today that Philadelphia Union assistant coach Dick Schreuder has accepted a job coaching alongside his brother Alfred Schreuder. Alfred was recently named head coach at 1899 Hoffenheim. Schreuder will leave the Union following the June 8 match against New York Red Bulls.
From "assult our players in the parking lot" to "I may or may not coach, whatever..." Arena undecided on coaching Revs vs. Galaxy
Sources: TFC assistant coach Robin Fraser front-runner for Colorado Rapids head coach job Toronto FC assistant Robin Fraser has emerged as the front-runner to become the next head coach of the Colorado Rapids, multiple sources have told ESPN FC. Fraser, 52, has interviewed with the Rapids to take over for interim boss Conor Casey and is now considered to be the favorite for the position, with one source saying that Rapids management will take Fraser's candidacy before investor-operator Stan Kroenke at some point this week. So Stran Kroenke is actually involved in these decisions...
Ticks all the boxes for me. For an "inside MLS' hire there's not many better candidates available. The best "outside MLS" suggestion I heard was Aitor Karanka.
Jamaican-American? Kind of surprised they didn't take an extended look considering europe/mexico is out of season The Chivas USA permanent coaches are kind of impressive post Chivas. 1) Rongen - Considering he was the YNT coach of the so called "lost generation" BS. He got them to youth World Cups. 2) Westerof - He is pretty much retired 3) Bob Bradley - Might be the best manager the US has had. 4) Preki - Nearly became the first american to manage a premier league team when he reportedly nearly got the Leicester City job the year they won the EPL. 5)Martin Vasquez - Became first assistant to Klinsmann and then the scapegoat. 6) Robin Fraser 7) El Chelis - Don't know how he hasn't gotten arrested in Las Vegas even when he isn't associated with the team. 8) Jose Luis Real - Made an appearance as caretaker manager for Toluca 9) Wilmer Cabrera - Doing well in Houston.
Peter Vermes is only the Kansas City's 4th permanent manager, 6th if you count the interim stints Ken Fogarty (six games in 1999) and Brian Bliss (half a season after Bob Gansler got pushed out).
It is strangely lacking, and for Fraser to be a repeater as the sole African-American head coach is kinda weird.
Hearing that tomorrow's FC Cincinnati "major announcement" will be the introduction of the club's new general manager. #FCCincy— D.J. Switzer (@wrongsideofpond) May 29, 2019
