Same kind of BULLSHIT we are going through with our owner (non caring/cheap), not going to pay for TWO coaches at the same time. The scary thing is your owner isn't cheap and if looked at the way Seattle and Atlanta are doing things, you guys could have something similar.

The Revs decline over the last few years...

The 2017 season, for all intents and purposes, came to a close for New England last night.

So what exactly happened to the New England Revolution? This group was supposed to be one of the teams of the back-half of this decade, building upon their nearly MLS Cup-winning success in 2014 to become a cross between Kreis-era RSL and Stevie Nicol's great Revs teams of the aughts. Maybe they wouldn't win a bunch, but they'd play fun soccer and get damn close, right?

That... hasn't happened. New England finished on 55 points back in 2014, fifth in the league and second in the East, before making that run to the Cup. In 2015, this young and hungry and creative team with MLS Cup experience finished on... 50 points. Then they got bounced out of the playoffs in the Knockout Round. Year-over-year, they went backwards.

In 2016 that number dropped to 42 points. The season was somewhat salvaged by a run to the US Open Cup final and a good first 20 minutes in that game, at FC Dallas. But then Gershon Koffie got hurt and the Revs fell apart, losing 4-2. Nonetheless they won five of their final seven games and only missed the playoffs by virtue of goal differential.

Now 2017 has happened, and there is no silver lining. There will be no postseason, there was no Open Cup run, and it looks entirely possible that there will not be a single away win this calendar year.

That article is pretty much spot on. What isn't mentioned in the part about AJ Soares is that Mikey-Mike Burns admitted to being "caught off guard" when a lowish-paid player who had turned down a previous offer, who had a European passport might move to another club who would more than double his salary.

As bad as some of those coaches are I'd like to make the dark horse case for Sigi Schmid...

Last year Sigi had 6W 2D 12L (1.0ppg) for Seattle before he got fired on July 26. Big DP signing Nicolas Lodeiro made his debut in Seattle's next game (July 31), and post-Sigi they were 8W 4D 2L (2.0ppg) and eventually won MLS Cup. Whenever Sigi talked about what happened, he brought up not having big DP signing Lodeiro as an excuse.

So this year LA was terrible under Curt Onalfo, 6W 4D 10L (1.1ppg), firing him on July 27 and hiring Sigi. Their big DP signing Jonathan Dos Santos was signed the same day, July 27. Under Sigi, who this time got the big DP signing, LA is now 1W 2D 5L (0.6ppg)... 0.6 ppg is by far the worst any MLS team has done this season under any coach (Onalfo almost doubled that!), and that's with Dom Kinnear (how much are they paying him?) having been brought in as assistant coach too. I'm not saying LA doesn't have major problems beyond Sigi, but it certainly doesn't look like Sigi is part of the solution.

I believe Sigi has a contract for just the rest of the season. If true, no point firing him sooner. That means there's a window for Olsen and Curtin, two coaches of perpetually struggling teams who have had multiple full seasons to make and implement changes, to be removed before Sigi. And while that may seem unlikely, remember that Cassar, Kinnear, Mastroeni, Onalfo, and Heaps were all fired since this season began. There's a good chance two to five more changes (Olsen, Curtin, Sigi, Kreis, Heath) are made by this off-season--a 30-40% turnover rate. Most Game of Thrones seasons have lower mortality rates.

Least Olsen has a comparable PPG since the start of 2015 with the coaches that have been fired. Curtin has 0.12 PPG less than the worst fired coach's PPG and we know he isn't going anywhere. Hell our TD keeps saying how he is doing a great job and that fans should come see practices so we can know he is doing a good job.

Considering the shitshow of a roster Sigi inherited, including millstones of DPs, it's too far early to say Sigi is obsolete as an MLS coach.

It'll all depend on who he signs off season and if LA can be at least borderline playoff team next season.
