Honestly I cannot understand why the Revs have never honored the likes of Twellman, Ralston and Joseph. its a shame

It would start with ownership thinking about the team, then spending money to market and then have an event. I'm nit really sure ownership even do step 1 most of the time

I don't know if it's a "chicken or egg" situation, but Twellman will barely even admit that he played for the Revs. They were his only club (1860 Munich reserves doesn't count) and since he had so few caps, and none of them in significant competitions, you can't really call him a US National Team player. So who did he play for anyway?

Even as a kid, I knew that (Mets broadcaster) Ralph Kiner was a big-time power hitter for the Pirates in his playing days. ids today probably think that Adrian Healey was the better player because of his accent!

Wasn't there also some controversy about the Revs not releasing Twellman for US Nats games or camps - that was at a time when there was way more conflict with MLS games and the FIFA dates? Therefore he always got only the scrub games? I'm trying to remember.

I don't believe so. Noonan got a lot of starts because of Twellman's USNT call-ups.

The only bone of contention that I remember was the Revs not letting him transfer to Preston, where he would have made something like $1.5 million a year. He wasn't happy, but me, as a Rev fan was glad that they were keeping him (and Joseph, who had a similar opportunity to join Celtic around the same time) because I knew the Revs would never be able to find anyone even half as capable as those two on their own. And this was when teams got a lot smaller of a slice of the transfer fee.

I just remember Twellman not getting all that many chances at the Nats because Bruce Arena was being a total dick...

I've been away for a bit, so I might have missed this. Did Cincinnati officially become the next MLS team, starting to play next year? They acquired a couple of MLS players who are being "loaned" t them so they have no excuse not to win the USL title, and (at least as it implies), they will stay with them when they join MLS next year. I didn't see an official announcement, so is this a done deal? Would have thought there'd be more fanfare about it if it was true.

The outlined plan was to have 24 teams by the start of 2018, but yeah cinncinati received their blessing in may. The players theyve bought are joining the club now, i think the loan business has to do with mks owning players rather than clubs

Miami and nashville are slated to join in 2020

I'm foggy here - but maybe it was something where it seemed Revs/Nicol did not release Twellman when the Nats had their full complement of players from overseas to really compete and showcase with better players - and only went to the camps/games when the "scrubs" were there

That made him not look as good to be called into the World Cup team - which again, back then, MLS games were played right in the middle of World Cup, so Twellman would have missed a bunch of games.

or maybe I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue :ROFLMAO:

Well, I do think it's true that most of Twellman's minutes with the USNT didn't come with their 1st midfield, so he had trouble getting any decent service.

OTOH, I don't think that was the Revs' fault.

I think there was a perception, fair or not, that Twellman's game didn't translate well to the international game - where it was faster, bigger and more technical. I think that I generally agree with that, but we did give a lot of minutes to guys who could have the same thing said about them!

Sporting KC could be scary. Fontas is a player. I'm sure Nemeth will be eager to put one past Turner when we meet next also.

While Burns was "trying hard" to do something at the deadline, Montreal (even with the Revs on points) managed to pull off not one, but 3 moves, including signing a player Atlanta was rumored to be after:

French international right-back Bacary Sagna joins the Impact

Montreal Impact acquire midfielder Micheal Azira from Colorado Rapids

Impact acquires forward Quincy Amarikwa from the San Jose Earthquakes
