But KC only had those lessons because of what Columbus, Chicago, Colorado, Dallas & others did. They saw what those teams tried, picked the good and came up with new ideas to fix the bad. They also have a great ownership group. KC is a great story and I'm glad they are where they are. But you can't ignore the fact they had the chance because of what other teams did to help lay the groundwork. You can't call out other teams for not being like KC when they never had the chance. You can call them out for being poor in many other ways. Not with what you wrote. Anyway, to stay on topic for the thread: about those Open Cup attendances...
This is true. This is also true. Every league in every sport has better and worse owners. These shitty owners will eventually die/sell up/get investment partners who have a clue, but in the meantime there is a team in those cities for the new owners to take over.
Don't know about Colorado or Columbus, but If it wasn't Mr. Hauptman back 2007, I believe AEG would have found somebody else. If not they would held onto the team until they did. I seriously doubt the league would have contracted or moved the team.
mlssoccer.com is posting attendance numbers in this round and here they are: Home team first. They won't. The inaugural match at Audi Field may sell out and I can imagine tickets being used for the final regular season match. I don't expect much in between to sell out.
Yup, I wonder if anyone has a story. For example Cinci was a bit low (still second highest of the tour) because of a venue change.

Not to mention the location effect. The team is coming off a playoff season and currently in the hunt for a playoff spot, so they should be doing better than they are, but the ownership effect is keeping some of the people that have traditionally followed the team away, while the location continues to keep others and casuals away. That said, yesterday’s game was different in that Sector Latino was banned (they had their tickets refunded so not sure that they were counted among the distributed) and Section 8 decided to sit the game out in solidarity. Hard to say what effect both had on attendance given what we know about the numbers announced (it’s possible a lot of S8 holdouts had purchased tickets already and again, hard to say if they refunded tickets were counted or not), but it’s possible (likely) that some day of game sales were lost as a side effect.
23011 in Toronto for what seems to have been a classic game. This is the lowest number in a while isn't it?
15,621 in Montreal 10,132 in Columbus 15,553 in NYRB 16,068 in Colorado Yes San Jose's numbers are getting lower and lower.
