Blackouts are the dumbest thing in the world when a team puts its games on a local broadcast station (as FC Dallas has done by putting the game on Channel 21 in Dallas) and they're blacking out fans located in places, like Tyler, where there is no way on God's Green Earth that the cable or satellite provider would carry it.
Satellite providers offer which DMA's "local channels" to Tyler, TX households? Maybe part of the business thinking is to encourage people not to live in Tyler, TX. (Of course people don't like blackouts. And of course some of the reasons for a blackout being in place would not be popular with consumers. But these are business decisions made for some, perhaps very strange, business thinking and reasons which some/many fans would find "dumb.") Edit: This is an issue (for FCD fans) specifically for the Texas Derby matches. FC Dallas does not blackout their local games. http://www.mlssoccer.com/mls-live/blackout-policies Houston regional coverage matches are blacked out in the ROOT Sports SW region. http://www.mlssoccer.com/mls-live/blackout-policies/houston
Add 72k from ESPN Deportes to the POR-CLB total. http://www.socceramerica.com/article/68014/television-is-only-part-of-new-media-ecosystem-for.html
That's solid for ESPN Deportes if my recollection of their ordinary MLS numbers is correct. Also, Columbus games, to my recollection are usually lower rated games, so these numbers are solid.
Read the first ten or so posts in this thread. Those posts contain information on how each station has done over the past years.
No UniMás number yet, but 84k on UDN for the Friday night match between Orlando and Chicago. SOURCE: http://sportstvratings.com/notre-da...rts-tv-ratings-for-friday-march-11-2016/4661/
The UDN numbers are up quite a bit on last year. Week 1 was higher than any week last year, and 84k would be in the top 5 for any week last year. Orlando played in week two last year versus houston and drew 51k. I had kind of assumed that TV ratings in English and Spanish would move in tandem, but maybe the dedicated Unimas slot could grow the spanish language audience independently of overall growth.
Even with a leaked bracket, the selection show still probably took its toll on this weekend's ratings. 3/13 New York City/Toronto - 197k (ESPN2) San Jose/Portland - 175k (FS1) + 51k (FOXD) http://sportstvratings.com/kentucky...rts-tv-ratings-for-sunday-march-13-2016/4668/ In other news, there's this. 709817563765583872 is not a valid tweet id
282,000 for Orlando/Chicago combined Unimas/UDN. breakout was 198,000/84,000 https://t.co/3McM1iMfeV— Sports TV Ratings (@SportsTVRatings) March 15, 2016
TFC/NYCFC got 62k on Sportsnet One. As per the writer: Few sports outside of weekday afternoon lumberjack competitions do worse than that. https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/e...fc-continues-to-struggle-on-tv-151745168.html
Accounting for difference in population, this would equate to over 500k in US. It's not quite accurate because local ratings are not going to be multiplied like that, but still. 60-100k in Canada would be huge in US with similar popularity levels.
Don't know how many people like me would have watched on Unimas if U-Verse wasn't blocking it due to yet another dispute. I'd imagine a few thousand.

They got over 1M for curling. CURLING!!! That must be like Monday Night Football over there. Monday Night Curling. With Al and Chris and Michelle Tafoya as the sideline reporter.
It is was Canada's "World Series" equivalent of curling. And it was glorious. I watched TSN's coverage on ESPN3.
