Well, the two legs of Toronto-Montreal just displaced the Revs and DCU in 2004 as the best conference final in league history.
I'm still a bit stunned by how far Montreal got this year. From a talent perspective, position by position, they look pretty comparable to the Revs. The major difference is that their playmaker, Piatti, had a monster year, and our playmaker, Nguyen, didn't. If Nguyen had the year he did a couple of seasons ago, that could have been the Revs at the threshold of the Cup. Fans get frustrated and talk about blowing the roster up, but with the parity in MLS, it's often enough just about finding the one guy -- usually a number 10.
They are only necessary if you want to win. Yeah, that was a great game, everything from the on-field drama, the rivalry, and the atmosphere. My wife initially thought it was an English game, and it sure seemed it: Pouring down rain, a packed stadium with a roof over most of the stands, a very loud, passionate crowd.... Who woulda thunk we'd have MLS games like that 10 years ago? Oh, and imagine how shocked we would be if our best player had to leave due to injury and the guy we had available to sub was an experienced international who played many years with a club like Marseille, and a minute later, he scores the game winning goal. We would bring on a guy who (at best) was second-team all-ACC, and had played maybe 200 minutes all year...
I know we have the greatest turf in the history of great turfs ... but this isn't the first player who tweeted this out last night. I still wonder how much that affects our recruitment of players. At least the finals isn't on turf ¯\_(ツ)_/¯— AJ DeLaGarza (@AJD_20) December 1, 2016
Got to give the BMO Field groundskeepers credit. The Grey Cup was played there Sunday, and surely took the same kind of beating a grass feild would typically take. There were no visible lines and the CFL also has sponsor logos all over the field, no traces of them either. Throw in a driving rainstorm and sloppy conditions overall, but it sure didn't look like there was an issue with the field at all.
I agree. By way of possible explanation, the CFL game tends to exploit the wider widths of the Canadian fields, spreading the wear and tear - and they don't play in December and January,
But they play with 12 men, so to use Revs rosterese logic, the same amount of pounding that an NFL game would have on the field is actually less per man. And since they play only 75% the number of downs, that means, uh, I have no idea what the hell that means!
But remember that the "rouge" means that punts and field goals missed are run back more often, so that's even more wear and tear on the field.

Hey, no upgrading allowed! The Fire also moved Johnson because they could. He makes way too much for a backup GK, which he was for portions of the 2016 season. Atlanta regards him as a hometown hero.

No, I think he just ate some turkey.... he's getting ready to start thinking about the off-season as soon as they figure out which useless stiff they are going to waste an expansion draft protection spot on.
I asked Bilello about this, and he said they have to be different countries, but don't want to tell people where.
Fans: "Hey what are your goals for this year?" Revs FO: "Can't tell you it's a secret." A year later. Revs FO: "We reached all of our goals for the year. In fact, we even surpassed some of them!" KADs: "Just brilliant. What a great job."
He must be going to very small countries, thus if he told us which ones, we'd all know which players he's looking at. Thus the secrecy. So who plays in Liechtenstein, San Marino or Andorra?
