"Zzzzz...SNORT! Wha? Huh? Aahhh, I dunno, he's not exactly a "needle-mover," not really a household name. My wife thought he was some ancient ruins on a mountaintop in a remote part of Peru."
To piggy back on top of @DarrellLovell, source confirms 4 MLS clubs to be in talks with Houston over Cubo Torres. 3 in East, 1 in West.— MLS Transfers (@MLSTransfers) November 7, 2015 This is where the cynic in me wonders if Burns knows who Torres is.
I hope Burns and Heaps were watching the Columbus-Montreal game yesterday. That was a good example of both teams having a deep enough roster that they could actually make substitutions based on the game situation. The very idea that the Cows picked up a guy like Jack Mac for the stretch run, and yet Burns thought we were good to go for the winter transfer window, and the only guy we attempted to sign in the summer was a "project" that we lost to an NASL club....
Yes - and the Dallas - Seattle game. Emptying the bench in the 84th minute and having (gasp) guys that can actually change the game for you. Amazing concept. I'm really impressed by what Pareja has done in Dallas. To get this far on that budget, rely on a great Academy and shrewd signings. Well done.
http://matchcenter.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter/2015-11-08-fc-dallas-vs-seattle-sounders-fc/recap Armchair Analyst's Take There is strength in numbers. Especially when you have a coach who’s committed to using everything and everyone at his disposal. Dallas have been noteworthy for their youth, and with that ethos has come an extra level of depth. So when extra time, and then penalties came, they weren’t winded and they weren’t weary. They were just ready.
Kaka, Giovinco, Bradley, Gerrard, Lampard, Villa, Jozy, Dempsey, Keane, Dos Santos, Jones, Martins, Pirlo, Gonzalez, Morales These are the 15 highest paid MLS players this season. Not a single one of these players will be playing in the conference finals.
Here's hoping it all goes horribly wrong for them. Also, I wish Jason all the best in finding a new job that is a better fit.
Guillermo Barros Schelotto, who had a great run in MLS and is currently the coach of Lanus in Argentina where he has done very well, will be interviewed for the Chicago Fire head coach position
Viera? Hahaha No experience in MLS, strongest asset is working with youth vs ego driven late career stars. Wow, and they expect him to mould together that team in a year? Moving from Citeh to MLS will be a massive culture shock in terms of the cap, limits to players you can get and other socialist rules that exist nowhere else in the broader soccer world. Great player but I will be SHOCKED if he doesn't fail miserably at NYC FC. This has Ruud Guillit at the Galaxy written all over it. I love it.
He should go to Minnesota United. Just like RSL, far more patient market and owners than NYC. He would do well there if given enough time I think.
Yeah, Minny already has their infrastructure. They aren't really an "expansion" team, they are more like Montreal, Portland, Seattle, as opposed to Philly Toronto or Atlanta. He might not be too crazy about another expansion team, but I think he's able to pick his spot.
GOTY voting starts on 16th. Only Rev is Fagundez - only regular season goals otherwise Agudelo surely there! They are doing it this year March Madness style http://www.mlssoccer.com/goal-of-th...P-Header&utm_medium=GOTY&utm_campaign=Headers
Great point, but I'm afraid it will further the Krafts to think there is no need to get players like this....as Jones possibly walks too. They will say - "we can be just as good as Dallas....remember when we had 3 great years of drafts 10 years ago?.... " That means it will come down to scouting - not "trialists in the winter" (yikes).....and creating a vibe of championship ambitions via coach, stadium, facilities, and their positive contract negotiations to convince players/agents that players will want to come and play here and can further their careers. That is a tall step for the Revs lately, it seems
Well to be honest, there isn't any real need to get players like Lampard, Pirlo, Kaka, etc... (although a Giovinco would be nice!). There is a need to get players like Fabian Castillo, Mauro Diaz, Diego Chara, Liam Ridgewell, Sasha Kljkljlkjlestan, Kei Kamara, Gaston Sauro....
That's like my 8-year-old daughter who sees us driving a car and is convinced that it's so easy that she can do it too. Then she got on a video game of a race course and wiped out a whole row of palm trees, several storefronts and narrowly missed a few pedestrians.... In reality, it's harder than it seems. Sure, Dallas and the Red Bulls (and KC and RSL a few years ago) have built very good teams without spending a lot of money, but they have to make up for it by being smarter, scouting more, turning over more rocks, finding those guys who can contribute, and not being afraid of making a mistake, just move on and sign the next guy. That strategy can be successful, but not if you have the work ethic of a Phish fan and have trouble figuring out how to tie your shoelaces.
Agreed. Gerrard, Lampard, Pirlo, Kaka and Villa. That's the elite group that have won major trophies - Champions League, World Cup, Euro, etc. The rest are solid players but Giovinco is the class of that second group IMO, based on age, pedigree and potential upside. He is the real deal.
Yeah, I have to say that I'm rooting for this to not only fail, but to be one of those rare examples of such profound mismanagement that it takes a decade to recover. Current Brooklyn Nets, or early 2000's Knicks style where your just praying that you might be mediocre again in 5-6 years. I really hate New York sports.
YES. The DP debate can be a real distraction - there is a whole stratum of upper-cap level players that we aren't filling. I'm actually talking about MLS performance, not international pedigree. Of the sub-group you listed, only Kaka and Villa earned their pay IMO. The way to get better is to get better, not worse. Let's keep this disappointment in perspective: this is the first year that Heaps has failed to make significant progress with this team (even though there was little margin to improve on last season's ending).
