My 19 month old figured out how to say the dog's name yesterday. Now if only she could figure out that she's not supposed to share the dog's food.
My son who celebrated his 18th birthday a few days ago just got his license this past July. I think for him it was a combination of procrastinating in doing what HE needed to do to get the ball rolling (I wasn't going to do it for him) and the fact that there were two of his good friends to drive them around. Something else that I've noticed. He's mellowed since he got his own car in November. I noticed the same thing with my daughters when they started driving (they both did what they needed to do and got theirs at 16). Maybe the mellowing is the freedom they crave so much. Their own car provides the freedom. And another thing Roel. I found a program called TeenSmart. It's a combination of computer simulations that are awesomely real, DVD's and practice driving with a parent. I ordered this for my son and he really appreciated it. We did it once he was already licensed. Not only did it give him and me the opportunity to talk about driving and all the seriousness involved, I got a 10% discount on his insurance because he successfully completed it! But I think the biggest thing is that he actually liked and appreciated it.
Here's a milestone I wasn't expecting for months: Caroline got a hold of some crayons and drew all over our bedroom door. Mercifully, they were washable crayons.
Last night was the first night our little girl fell asleep without a pacifier. She cried her head off for 20 minutes before falling asleep, but she did it. Slept all night without waking up once! I think she would have done this a few weeks ago, but her persistent cough kept waking her just as she dropped off.
Ahhhh the restful sleep nights. Golden. Chloe hated pacifiers, wouldn't touch them and then.........she found her thumb. I hear ya on the consistent cough. She has been diagnosed with Asthma. She tends to get a cough on a somewhat consistent basis and takes a nebulizer of Pulmicort daily to help with her breathing. When she gets sick, and there seems to be a cold waiting around every corner this year, her coughing becomes very rough. We are taking her to an Allergist and an Asthma specialist today to help rule out any possible allergies that could be worsening the symptoms (we have 2 dogs and a cat) Aside from this she is very playful, active, and happy but the coughing, ugh the coughing! I have read and heard from many parents who said their child had similiar symtpoms but their children "grew out of them". I am hoping that by next winter her immune system is stronger and can fight off these colds because 4 hours of sleep a night is not doing it. Anyhow...I hope your daughter is feeling better soon. You'll be happy to hear she enjoys mild Indian foods, prefers Rogan Josh over Chicken Tikka Masala which is bothersome as I haven't learned to make that properly.
Sachin, I believe, has his own recipes thread somewhere. He's quite the cook. Just ask him what he made for Thanksgiving. .......I dare you.
My little guy (11 months) climbed halfway up the stairs on his own yesterday. He usually gets tired after two or three stairs, then tries to sit back and one of us catches him, but this time he made it up to the landing, 7 stairs up.
Awesome! My little girl has conquered the stairs and it scares us because it's an amusement ride for her. She also took her first steps un assisted this weekend. Has yet to do it again, but she did win a dollar from Grandpa for her efforts.
The twins have recently started stringing together words into rudimentary sentences. And the 5-yr-old thinks the Saturn V (that took the crews to the moon) is the coolest thing in the whole universe. I never was a space geek but now I'm turning into one for his sake. (Cool DVD for those interested in space: "The Dream Is Alive." We picked it up at our library and it's great.)
My little one (5 months) is on semi-solid foods right now. Didn't much care for rice, but liked the oats and LOVES barley, which makes we worry for my beer collection.
Perhaps she will become a brewer, make a decent fortune, and then hire you to live out your old age taste testing her batches? .....well one can dream, can't they?
Our kids all stayed in bed until (barely) after 7 a.m. yesterday. I thought maybe the world was coming to an end, but I didn't complain about it. Better than 5:30 a.m. like the day before.
I'm with ya brother......what I hate is once I get her back to sleep, I am wide awake, and watching Lazio vs. Sampdoria for some god awful reason.
Our 22-month-old daughter hit an unwanted milestone this weekend. The dreaded rotavirus. It's really knocked her for a loop. The only question is whether her next episode will be vomiting or diarrhea. The diarrhea usually wins. Of all the various illnesses she's had, this one easily wins as the most onerous - well, except for her first 10 days of life in the NICU.
youngest had her Jr Prom friday. her date could not take his eyes of her,,,,,,,her cleavage that is!! Dude almost got a beatdown! She looked gorgeous and was totally out of this kids class,,,,,must have been a pitty date
As the father of two grown daughters, I know your pain. Their latest milestones, starting her own company and a BA with honors!
firstshirt, ummm sorry 'bout that. I'll be more respectful when I pick her up for senior prom. but seriously, you should go ram his car. you know, send a message.
