Most initial Populous (assuming it's them) look familiar. I'm sure the final design will look quite different! Looks nice and it's good to see progress down there.
the location is great in the sense that itll be built between marlins park and american airlines arena. the neighborhood is not good but its bound to improve. all three stadiums are within distance. this will only bring more investments and developments in the city around the stadiums.
well i sure wouldnt expect it to be free. to a lot of ppl thats piece of mind theyre willing to pay for their vehicle to be secured in a garage.
take the freaking train guy, take an uber, take a lyft, using your own car "sorry to tell you" is a charge. gas is wasted "oh no.." everything cost money
Sure but the tweet kind of made it sound like they were doing it out of the goodness of their heart when they are actually doing it to make more money. So the fans are going to have to pay to park miles away and then pay to shuttle to the stadium. Not a great deal IMO.
I mean yea, this is a business venture, not a gift to us, we have to pay for things. nothing is free in life. ill pay to watch soccer. my ass is riding the metro to Culmer, and walking two blocks. of its a night game ill take a lyft
The tweet was from a third party which simply stated what the clubs solution to this site's biggest problem, the lack of nearby parking, would be. I don't see what made you think it was implied that it would be free. Anyways it would not surprise me if it was "free", as in included with paying to park, but we'll see. Not such a big deal though as sports fans are accustomed to shelling out for parking/transport to sporting events.
the shuttle concept isnt a new idea. currently its done for Marlins Park, and they built garages onsite. in the end fans will have options. currently for marlins park you can take a shuttle from Magic city casino, park and only pay the shuttle bus fee. i believe its $5 or $7 roundtrip. if not then you can park in the neigborhood where residents allow fans to park anywhere btw $10 to $30. i can see the same thing happening with the new soccer stadium.
To cut to the chase, what exactly was the point of this meeting? It sounds from the tone of the Herald article that the council woman who represents the area which incudes Overtown requested the meeting and is supportive of the project. If the final hurdles are the actual land deal and zoning changes then (with no public financing needed) then was this just a way to try and put a spin on it for the locals who will be affected by having the stadium in their neighborhood? Not trying to be negative here. There is clearly progress. The wheels are back in motion I'm just not sure what yesterday means if anything at all.
stadium deals, private or public, is still a sensitive subject in the city. theres a small opposition so this was a way to sit down with people and address any issues and concerns from what it seems. and i guess it was also a way to gaugue support. the room was packed with reporters, local politicians and citizens. theres obvious interest in this project. so far the whole thing looks good moving forward.
It's been easy to kick Miami Beckham United when they were down but I've tried to abstain from that and keep rooting, fingers crossed. Stadium looks like a fine thing! Hope it gets jazzed-up rather than dumbed-down, as happens to many of these initial renderings. Now how about these comment sections in local news articles? The last one I read was followed by mostly negative commentary, familiarly uninformed. It's easy for opponents (like a Spring Gardens realtor?) to manipulate opinion by cynically lumping MLS stadium projects in with the NFL and MLB money grabs. Billionaire blackmail etc. People think they know this story already, and while they might be willing to "go there" for their NFL team, a loud contingent damn sure ain't giving a penny to that pretty boy Beckham and his pinko foreigners game, even if the crooked pols are in bed with him. "Share the Marlins stadium!" etc. Should we be joining in on comments sections to set the record straight, or is that counterproductive? Esp if we're not locals? Take St Louis as an example. If I recall correctly, one of the guys who's written a book on stadium rip-offs argued at length that the St Louis MLS bid was a sweetheart deal for the city - that St Louis should jump on it! And it sure seemed like there was vocal support from a motivated soccer community. But apparently all of that failed to convince. In the political arena, our current national dialogue over "fake news" and partisan facts seems to demonstrate that debate just hardens peoples biases. Beckham's bid has to stand on its own legs and be good for the community, and can't depend on internet warriors, right? But it's hard to just watch something almost universally beneficial like the St Louis bid get shot down. Should we be standing on the sideline afraid to take our own side in a fight, or should we be taking a dump on the rolling airline cart of public discourse and calling everyone cucks? (Don't even try to tell me there's a reasonable middle ground.)
its difficult to say if youre not a local. it helps to know a little background in all things miami. though some of them have never lived there yet always have something bad to say. in the end though theres miserable ppl everywhere no matter what the subject is. and theres too mich ignorance as well. some ppl in these comments still dont know the stadium is completely 100% privately funded. so that tells you a lot. dont waste your breath.
Ok that's what I thought. It seems that this meeting or the results of it have nothing to do with the projects ability to move forward. In other words it seems it is still all systems go.
Especially if their vehicle is $25K+ brand new with a terrible deductible on their insurance. And as every one who has ever dealt with Insurance knows, If anything happens that they have to pay for, you're going to pay for it too.

http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/michelle-kaufman/article151768527.html i had not idea but a lot of similarities as far as stadium parking; location concerns and how Orlando is shutting up the "omg thats such terrible unsafe ghetto neighborhood, im never going" crowd.
Latest update http://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/community/miami-dade/article153523524.html Exciting in that this is the furthest we gotten in the process with any of the possible sites. As the article explains further down the page the next steps involve zoning and approvals to build etc. No guarantees by any stretch of the imagination. At this point I would guess the league is on board with this site otherwise it wouldn't have gotten to this point. More red tape to come but it is still progress.
