The USL 2018 home openers are out so it looks like no more of the NASL teams are making the switch: http://www.uslsoccer.com/news_article/show/875213?referrer_id=2333971
Home openers are scheduled, that does not mean more could not be added still, especially if two come over at the same time. That said, I think we are done adding NASL teams to USL for this year. But it could happen.
On Saturday, reports began to surface stating that both Miami FC and Jacksonville Armada will be moving to the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) ahead of the 2018 season. The NPSL is currently considered a fourth-tier division in the U.S. soccer pyramid. Pro Soccer Talk has since been able to the confirm these developments. http://soccer.nbcsports.com/2018/01/27/miami-fc-jax-armada-set-to-join-npsl/
What a waste of two quality teams. Should have just swallowed their pride and joined USL and play teams of their level instead. These two teams are just going to be like clubbing baby seals in NPSL, not even going to be fair.
FWIW Jacksonville already had a NPSL team, didn't they? So it would not be a move to NPSL, but a cessation of the NASL team and continuation of the NPSL team.
They had a team called Jacksonville United starting in '11 and the Armada bought them and made them their U-23 team in '16. The U-23 team is now just the Jacksonville Armada.
Got it, thanks. So then they are not moving to NPSL, just only having the NPSL team (assuming NASL does not get it together in some miracle)
Miami FC 2 Joins the NPSL As The Miami FC prepares to enter into its third season of play later this summer, the club announced on Wednesday the creation of Miami FC 2, which will enter the National Premier Soccer League for the 2018 season. “The Miami Football Club is proud to unveil Miami FC 2, which will be ready to play in the upcoming NPSL season,” said Sean Flynn, CEO, The Miami FC. “Our players and coaches are excited to get back on the field, and the NPSL schedule allows us to face some quality competition in the Sunshine Conference throughout the next few months.” Recently, the NASL announced its intentions to postpone the beginning of the 2018 season until August, in order to align play with the global soccer calendar. Once the NASL season became delayed, Sean Flynn saw an opportunity to create Miami FC 2 and allow Miami FC’s players to compete in matches rather than simply train for the next few months. "Miami FC 2 is a great addition to the Sunshine Conference and an instant rival to our existing Members in Florida,” NPSL Chairman Joe Barone commented. “As an organization they bring a high level of notoriety and professionalism, and we are excited to welcome them to the NPSL.” The seven team Sunshine Conference will be comprised of Miami FC 2, Miami United FC (Hialeah), Beaches FC (Stuart), Boca Raton FC, Naples United FC, Storm FC (Fort Lauderdale) and Jacksonville Armada U-23. Miami FC 2 is planning to play its home matches at St. Thomas University in Miami Gardens, the training home for The Miami FC since its inception in 2016. “We are thrilled to have Miami FC 2 play its home matches at St. Thomas University,” Flynn continued. “The school and administration have been wonderful hosts to our club since we began play, and Riccardo Silva’s donation of stadium lights to the field last year will allow us to play our games in the evening, when the majority of our fans can attend. The setting will be intimate and seats will practically be on the pitch, so we are looking forward to a unique and fan-friendly experience for our fans and supporters.” A full NPSL schedule for Miami FC 2, along with ticketing information, will be announced in the coming days.
