The pitches at Trigoria were rebuilt last summer. I think all of these serious injuries are just bad luck. It is becoming more apparent that we need a new coach: without penalty-kicks we cannot score. Neither Torino nor Juventus played particularly well but they scored 4 goals against us combined.
Sorry to hear about Zaniolo. You guys have a gem of a player. Meniscus tears can be scary, but hopefully the damage is small. I hope he comes back stronger than ever...
Dzeko spends far too much time playing outside the opponenet's penalty area. That means you have to do a virtually perect move in order to score because your striker is not well poisitioned to score.
Doesnt mean they're not hard as a rock. If I'm the owner its something I'm looking into yesterday. When you have your multi million assets continuously dropping, putting it down to simply bad luck is a cop out.
The fields at Trigoria have been a mess forever or for as long as I remember. Not sure if its the weather or the poor field maintenance. Maybe a little bit of both.
At this point there is clearly a pattern. I'm fairly confident that no other team experiences the amount of ACL injuries we have in recent memory. They need to really look into this.
Also want to add that I was impressed with Florenzi's game today. I posted something not too long ago saying how I was unimpressed and getting tired of how he was playing. He deserves credit where it is due.
It has been reported tonight by a very reliable Roman journalist that this is the 19th ACL injury one of our first team or primavera players has suffered since 2014: an astonishing statistic. Nevertheless, if the problem is Trigoria why was this not such an issue before 2014?
If he gave it for the shirt pull then it's a soft penalty because his run wasn't even affected by it until Dybala decided to extend his leg across Veretout's running lane. Then, he fell over and the ref gave the penalty...
I'm curious to know if Lazio has the same issues as they also play at the Olympic at Formello Training Ground...
It's bad luck. Roma never has been a fortunate team. Think of all the poor refereeing performances this season alone that have penalised us and cost points (and very nearly qualification from the EL group).
Definitely was a soft penalty, however if the roles were reversed I'd be telling for a penalty as well.
I know exactly where Formello us as its near the metropolitana area of Rome which isn't far. I think the humidity really has something to do with it though. Lazio's doesn't look that much better...
I'd like to see the exact injury for all the players, if that existed somewhere. Are these ACL tears coming from another player barging into them, tackling them at a weird angle? Or is it from a muscle imbalance the player carries, that causes other parts to compensate down the kinetic chain, leading to eventual injuries. I used to have a weaker left hip, so I placed more weight once I was tired, on my left pinky toe and joints. Was stuck walking for the next 2 weeks, fixed my hip imbalance after, and problem went away. No issue with left foot at all anymore. edit: stop it @falvo, it's not going to be weather unless they played in rain/snow all year long.
Contractors can mess up, putting in too much or too little sand that can have big impact quickly on the surface hardness of the grass, yes even experienced ones who have good reputations. Your notion that because the grounds were worked on last year, it couldnt be the issue today is incorrect Mr Chelsea fan.
We always talk about the grass, but the work they do in the gym could also be the reason. I don't know what exercises they do, but proper Squats do improve knee stability, among other things. Mark Rippetoe harps on this all the time in his books.
