This match begins the Oktoberfest promo by the Union and the Oktoberfest Sons of Ben tailgate. Always remember Oktoberfest is in September...
Again, not a knock on people who make the threads... thank you for your normal service.... But this is what is worst about the Union 6 season. People don't care. 3 post in the Matchday thread made LESS THAN 24 HOURS before kick off. I am struggling to convince myself to go tomorrow. I remember when I was in HS 3-4 years ago, I would drive to Chester from HBG no problem. Now living in Philadelphia, I can't even talk myself into a trip to Chester... Thats bad. I'm sure I'm not the only one
If it is raining it will be really easy for me to make the call to stay home. Hard to care when the team doesn't. (Sorry @tonyunion2010 )
I'm officially starting the BS Union Association of Apathy. PM me to sign up, if you can be bothered.
Calling for heavier rains by gametime. Awash in a terrible season. Friends from Virginia in tiwn looking to hang out. This may be an easy decision.
Given the weather forecast, it is time to remember one of Kerith Gabriel's articles while he was with the Union: http://www.philadelphiaunion.com/po...emories-ppl-parkplayed-while-braving-elements He cites the: * 2013 3-1 win over Chivas * 2013 1-0 win over New England * 2012 USOC 3-0 win over Rochester * 2011 1-1 tie with Seattle You can add in post-Platinum ugly weather games: * 2015 2-2 tie with Montreal * 2014 USOC Quarter Final 2-0 win over New England (dust storm) Bottom line: Union seem to be a good "bad weather" team at home - the sloppy field conditions help mitigate any technical and speed advantages teams usually have when they play the Union on normal field conditions.
Though I think the Seattle one was a late equalizer given up and that Montreal game (2014?) was up a man and we gave it up. But sure, we're good in bad weather.
With Maidana suspended, Wenger questionable, Fred & Pfeffer on the mend - Curtin is missing a bunch of gameday midfield options. Have to think that Sapong may play out wide later in the match to allow Casey or Aristegueita to sub in up top. Injury report: OUT: M Jimmy McLaughlin (concussion) QUESTIONABLE: D Maurice Edu (groin injury, DNP 8/29) QUESTIONABLE: M Andrew Wenger (left MCL sprain) M Zach Pfeffer (groin strain, DNP 8/29) M Fred (right quad strain) GK Brian Sylvestre (right hand laceration, DNP 8/29)
I imagine attendance will be pretty poor. its the only home game I'm missing this season. emailed the ticket office and they traded me a pair for Orlando since I cant make it
You can also add in: 2015 USOC Victory over DCU: 2-1 It didn't rain that game...............beautiful weather..........
It was the 0-0 tie with Portland in 2013 that had the monsoon. On another note, have to hope Nogs stays away from a yellow card: SUSPENDED: PHI: Cristian Maidana (through Sept. 13) WARNINGS: SUSPENDED NEXT YELLOW CARD: PHI: Warren Creavalle, Vincent Nogueira … CLB: Kei Kamara, Tony Tchani SUSPENDED AFTER TWO YELLOW CARDS: PHI: Eric Ayuk Mbu, Sebastien Le Toux, Fernando Aristeguieta, Fabinho
Well, i can say, for my part, that I'd normally be in the parking lot right now, and I'm typing this from my couch. Just sat out at a Pop Warner football game, a very damp one, and got a warm shower. Going to have a visit with my friends from Virginia and maybe watch the replay on MLS Live a bit later tonight. Sorry guys, take my "fan" card away.

And who came up with the fantasy that we have a strong midfield? LeToux can't pass or receive well, and Carroll can't make an offensive play to save his life. Guess the TV guys had to come up with something as a Union "strength".
