Was only able to watch about the first 30 minutes, and got the impression that Sweden were not playing with a lot of emphasis to score big. It looked like they wanted the solid win, but almost seemed to playing with a level of pre-match sympathy and not score another 10+ goals. That said, if Thailand had scored on that one break, maybe about 20 minutes in, that might have been a different story.
90' 4-0 Thailand subs in (3 of 3) #11 Sudarat Chuchuen for #7 Silawan Intamee. +3'. 90+1' (of +3') 4-1 Dangda longball to 27m box right for Sung-Ngoen toasting Eriksson caught high at circle back. Sung-Ngoen outraces her through box top mid-right to 6m mid-right, shoots right instep hard, golaaaaazo through the needle between Lindahl and right post 1/3 high, into center back 1/2 high. Late consolation for Thailand! 🇹🇭Kanjana Sungngoen's strong finish hands #THA their first goal of the #FIFAWWC pic.twitter.com/GEnQE16iOh— FOX Soccer (@FOXSoccer) June 16, 2019 For me, this is the image of the #FIFAWWC so far. Better than any article, commentary, it shows all their efforts, achievements, struggle we try to explain with words... #Thailand #SWETHA pic.twitter.com/VcRxLkUqfj— Tiago Fernandes Maranhão (@maranhao_tiago) June 16, 2019 Entire stadium just erupted, including swedish fans for the Thailand goal! Penalty incoming for Sweden. The odd thing is that the Swedish players didn't make much of a meal on that. edit: and a goal. FT 5-1.
No goal was ever more deserved than Sung-Ngoen's one! Brilliant, powerful, and a fair reward to all she did in this game. Also, my other girl Taneekarn Dangda with the brilliant assist. She didn't score before being disqualified for the next match, but she anyway left her mark on this match.
90+3' (of +3') 4-1 Rubensson crosses from wide right to ~15m right post, Hurtig header bounces(?) to Boonsing. Long delay, VAR check ... ball grazed Chinwong's right triceps/biceps. 90+5' (of +3') 4-1 Penalty confirmed, yellow card on Chinwong 90+6' (of +3') 5-1 Rubensson pk, right instep pull into left side netting. Before they even retrieve the ball ... VAR calls for a penalty and Elin Rubensson adds one more for Sweden just before the final whistle. pic.twitter.com/QW6ldQguPi— FOX Soccer (@FOXSoccer) June 16, 2019 FT 5-1.
As much heralded as she is, she was always suspect to me as an high-level GK. In this case, though, I guess she couldn't possibly cover her post better without opening the far post to Sung-Ngoen.
Thank you again, VAR, for trying to ruin an happy ending (just trying, though: the PK wasn't enough to erase the good vibes from Sung-Ngoen's goal).
Didn't get sarcasm from your post. But sarcasm doesn't really translate to text well. So apologies if I misrepresented you.
We can now be happy, @MiLLeNNiuM. I'll add a sort of a late response to the post with "players to look out for at this WWC", from don't-know-which-thread: it appears, in the end, that some of the "original" Thai girls, as Kanjana Sung-Ngoen, Tanekaarn Dangda, Silawan Intamee, looked more interesting than Miranda Nild.
